Blackjack table might be the only place in a casino that still uses coins.

DocBenjaminDocBenjamin Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭✭✭

Five dollar bet, get dealt a blackjack and the dealer needs a Kennedy to pay the $7.50 time and a half.

Not counting the gelato bar where you get some change back from your six bucks...but the gaming areas.

Am I missing anything else?

Looks like they still have a few of the horse race machines in Vegas.

Lousy wager...but sure was fun in the 70's.

Kind of hard to find in casinos anymore but there are the coin pusher machines.

Also all the ticket redeem machines use coins. ;)

The El Cortez casino on Fremont St. still has a section with vintage coin slots you can play, at least they did a few years back when I played them.

Pai Gow poker tables also use coins (quarters) because of the 5% commission that is taken on winning hands.

We went to Ruidoso, N.M. for the wknd about 4 yrs ago. We took a couple change jars figuring we would go hit the casino once while we were there. When we got there, all the machines used debit/credit cards. No coins. We turned around and left. Lol

My place, cash machines pay out the change with another ticket. Though the cage will pay out with real quarters.

Maybe the sports book on a small horse bet.

    Will have to investigate. o:)

I know a casino where for some weird reason just gives bills, no change. People go pick that up and go to the cash out, all is good 👍 $$

Some casinos use half dollars at the blackjack table while some use fifty cent or $2.50 chips.

Back when I was a kid back in the 50’s my mom and dad would go to, Reno. When they returned they would give me at least 2 silver dollars that I would put in my piggybank. I remember that piggybank being so heavy, it was a bit difficult for me to pick it up. When we moved to our new home that piggy bank disappeared, someone stole it. To this day I often wonder what dates would have been in there. I believe movers stole my piggybank. I remember all of us looking for it but never was recovered.

They took the last quarter-fed wash away from my barrio. Owners replace them with the ten to twenty-five dollar auto-wash systems and payment by card.

Parents saved $75 in quarters in the 1960's to buy a new sofa. Put them away and were convinced that the housekeeper swiped them after they forgot where they were located.

Two years later, my dad was looking for the ice bucket after Gramps died. Seemed sort of heavy...yeah, filled with the quarters.

Back in the early 60's my Grandmother and a lady friend of hers flew to Vegas to play the penny slots and take in a show. It was about five years after Grandpa died, and I think it was her way to get back into living. She had a good time.

Some of casinos pay out Blackjacks at 6 to 5, vs 3 to 2. That generally eliminates the need for Kennedy halves. I’d never play one of those tables!

Binion offered a single deck game with even money on BJ.

Maybe a good bet if you count cards...I never did.

If you counted cards, you'd be minimally ahead in Black Jack over time. However, that goes away if they only offered even money on a Black Jack. And I guarantee you they won't go through the whole deck. That's when card counters made money, and the casinos figured that one out decades ago.

Ahhh. think of the shows in the 1960's. Rat Pack at the Sands.
