Guess what the 28P will grade. I have high hopes for this coin.
.

.
The 28P graded what I thought it would. Took it on the chin on a couple of the other dimes.

    MS65FB.
If the color was a little more vibrant and not as brown, I think it would go 66.

64FB if the peripheral toning isn’t to the point of environmental damage.

63FB would be my grade but PCGS has really been bumping originality lately so lets say 64FB.

Sorry to say, but from those pics toning is unattractive IMO. 63 FB.

I’m impressed that you can be so certain from those pictures. And I’m embarrassed to have even considered the possibility that areas of the toning could be terminal.😉

I have a super hard time photo-grading coins with this type of toning. I could easily see this falling anywhere from 64-66.

Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.

I suspect that the toning is too far gone for a dip to result in a positive outcome.

    That is a good possibility.

That toning looks like it's found a good home. I wouldn't mess with it.
    Looks pretty thick.
Once you start dipping the originality goes out the windows.

The toning is only 1st cycle. Not even close to terminal.

It’s as if we’re looking at different images. Portions of each side - especially at the peripheries - are well beyond the darkest of those colors and close to black.

I think that's a little bit of burgundy (the next color after russet), but since it's by the rim, it looks very dark, near black, when viewed straight on in a photo. I'm sure it would look better in hand.

64 not FB. It appears to have a hit on the left side of the top horizontal bands.

64FB. I love toning, but I would pass on that one. I would feel it would not look so good in a few years. JMO

In my world of collecting attractively toned Mercs, anything that eats through the luster layer of a coin I would call terminal/damaged. The photos also do not show luster the way I like luster, not even close. Maybe there's a little in protected areas? That coin would definitely not be for me on any level. For a grade I would be harsh and call it AU, even if it isn't. That's how I would likely value it FOR MYSELF. If I were to get it graded I would definitely sell it no matter what because that is not a look I go after. It just looks like another damaged Merc to me.

Edit: The only way to get rid of that toning would be with a wire brush and unless you are into flushing money, it's probably not a good idea. ;)

Hey, you got a good result on this one. Were you hoping that the 1945 would come back as FB?
