Anything less than A or B isn’t worth collecting.
Does this seem radical ? Looks like where we are, to me. Post an A coin. Numbers don’t matter. But, it has to be in a PCGS holder. After all, here we are.
Jmlanzaff, it doesn't take a PhD to answer "Yes", or "No".
It was a simple question. You trying to get more posts than RickO ?
I believe that you are probably the closest to ricko on these boards.
I was just trying to have a discussion. I knew it was a radical post. I did not expect the backlash. .

I did answer that simply... before you insulted 90% of collectors.
I've only been replying to your replies. Are you racing me to RickO?
A coin
in a PCGS holder ....could be a B or C somewhere else.
And I did not characterize anyone In this thread or the world as unintelligent or moronic. I made an inference that collectors HERE may be more intelligent and astute. Beware the Shadow of a Troll.

“You say there is no correlation between intelligence and (collecting) choice . I think there is.”
The above quoted post of yours didn’t appear to speak only of collectors “HERE”. But even if it did, it was an insult to many of them, as well as collectors everywhere else.

Anyone around in the 70's when dealers had their stock in PVC flips will immediately recognize this type of toning (actually a lack of toning on the high points) as being from the coin residing in a PVC flip too long and the toning dissolving on the high points in contact with the PVC flip.

What's insulting ? Smart people collecting raw coins thinking that I don't think they're Intelligent collectors ?(jmlanzaff made that up) I never said that or implied it. That astute and intelligent collectors gravitate to higher Grades (A &B ) ? That there is a correlation between intellect and collecting choice ? Or how you perceive another persons view of my post vs his interpretation of my response to YOU ?
So go back to my first response to you Feld. Respond to that and explain what is rude or insulting to collectors ? I'm trying to protect them more than you and the TPGs.

What’s insulting is your post, which I already quoted in my previous reply and stated that it was an insult to collectors everywhere.

ok. i give up. do you think there is a correlation between intelligence and collecting choice ?
if you answer yes , you are insulting collectors everywhere.
if you answer no there is no correlation between intelligence and collecting choice you are not insulting collectors everywhere.
Okay Mark I do know more collectors and dealers who collect and deal lower grade, ungraded, and lesser valued coins than the more astute and educated that we have here do.
I don't wish to reignite this. I thought we had made our peace in the DM. However, this is the direct quote of what you originally said to Mark (who is not influenced by me):
"
Okay Mark I do know more collectors and dealers who collect and deal lower grade, ungraded, and lesser valued coins than the more astute and educated that we have here do. "
One possible (likely?) reading is that collectors of "lower grade", "ungraded" and "lesser valued" are LESS "astute" and LESS "educated" than the PCGS slab hunters here. I really don't know how else to read that with the "more" there.
i know more collectors who do not collect slabbed coins. Most of them are smarter than me. They’re more educated. They are more astute. They collect what they like. They have deeper pockets. Their intellect precedes their collecting choices and there is a distinct correlation I see between what they collect and their intellect. if it is insulting because this is what I see , then by all means brothers and sisters , feel insulted.
The people here on the boards have a slightly different route due to collecting coins in slabs. And in some threads I read , it appears only coins with another company’s sticker is adding value and cost. While the “c” coins are sort of viewed by some as “unworthy” in the A & B crowd.
I never said that those who did not collect A & B or C ( all mine in PCGS holders ), or collecting ungraded raw coins were not as astute , or as intellectual as those collecting higher valued or graded coins. I merely said “ Okay Mark, I do know more collectors and dealers who collect and deal lower grade, ungraded and lesser valued coins than the more astute and educated that WE have here. “. Let me rephrase that. Okay Mark , I do know more collectors and dealers who collect and deal lower grade, ungraded and lesser valued coins than SOME of the more astute and educated that we have here.
in the end, I can reason why the hobby could be hurting and I don’t think it’s me.
I'm a hobbyist first and foremost, so I'm not in it for the registry set crap that is more like the lottery than the hobby. Crack it and put it in a capital holder or album, and share the history and beauty with friends and family (including non-collectors). That brings me a whole lot more satisfaction than paying ridiculous prices for a common date coin just because it's slabbed as a MS68. A reasonable price for a 65, 66 or 67 is just fine for this guy.
I just found a proposed three point grading system from 2005!

Dreck, CACS, Rare Plastic slabs, special labels, auction houses, PCGS sponsors etc? Who cares. I'll just stick with actual coins. THKS!!!

It's a self-inflicted wound for those of us who know better, and that's likely most of us here. At least to the large majority of numismatists here.
