If there's one thing we learned about GS in 2024 its that Mike Dunleavy Jr is no Bob Meyers.
they're a total dumpster fire of a team now and Curry is going to fade into oblivion unless he leaves
I think it really came down to the Warriors owner finally saying enough is enough where he wanted to lower their tax number considerably. It makes no sense to keep setting tax dollar records when your team can't make it out of the Play-in tourney and I doubt that trading for an oft-injured Paul George would have made much of a difference.
Now they can really lean into their younger prospects and if it ends up leading to a top 5 pick next year even better for them when there are some really good players at the top of the draft. This does nothing for contending with Steph but that was always going to be the case, at his age there are rarely ever any late career surges by superstars that end up with a title.
i'd love for the Spurs to somehow wrestle Markkanen away from the Jazz, but i sense they are just going to add on the margins, grow organically and try to hit the jackpot with the strength of next year's draft class and the bevy of picks they own
i don't foresee any tectonic plate movement from them this summer
SA has always been more of a draft & develop team than one that trades a bunch of picks for a star player. They've made big deals sending out guys like Kawhi, Dejounte & Derrick White but I can't remember one were they brought in an established star, maybe Rodman back in the 90's but not sure if that was a trade or not. Adding Markkanen would have made for a great frontcourt though, they could still go out and find a traditional center to go along with two 7 footers out on the wings.
If Mikal Bridges is good for 5 firsts,a second plus a swap then Danny Ainge will want the moon for Marrkanen and there just aren't enough teams that can trade that type of draft capital without handing over all of their own future picks. OKC, SA, Brooklyn, Washington, Orlando and maybe New Orleans.

i was referring mainly to his relevancy and exposure. it would suck to see the greatest shooter of our generation (lifetime?) crawling to the finish line of his career on a middling team that can't even get out of the play-in game. his name would no longer be on the tip of anyone's tongue.

Unfortunately that's what happens with all of the greats in all of the major sports unless you go out on your own terms. If winning is so important to him then he could always go play somewhere else where he has a chance to compete but it looks like he just wants to retire a Warrior for life.
While I do agree that the GS front office hasn't done well since Bob Meyers stepped down, that team really can't complain when their owner has been paying astronomical tax bills for years to the point that the NBA literally had to change the tax rules to prevent other teams from doing the same. If I were a Dubs fan I'd just be grateful that the run lasted as long as it did.
I think one of the hardest choices that some of these dynasty teams have to make at the end is do we let our guys finish out their careers with the team or do we trade them and try starting over?
Once the 80's Celtics heyday ended with Bird, McHale & Dennis Johnson retiring, the team fell back into the pack for over 20 years before Ainge eventually put together a championship team led by Pierce,KG & Ray Allen. Once their run was nearing the end he traded Pierce & KG to the Nets for a boatload of picks that turned into Tatum & Brown and we just watched them finally reach that pinnacle together. For the most part, GS chose loyalty to their guys and this is the result.
Lowkey roster move but Boston just re-signed center Xavier Tillman. With Porzingis expected to miss the first few months rehabbing and 38yr old Al Horford not playing second nights of b2b's this was an important signing, imo.
No one can say that Celtics ownership hasn't rewarded their players after winning the Finals. They've literally re-signed or extended all of their top 11 players with the exception of Sam Hauser who has a player option for 2024 but rumor has it he'll be extended next.
I expect that Curry will continue to play at an All Star level next year and maybe the year after that. Whether he will have teammates that will play at a level where GS makes the playoffs and wins a series or two is yet to be determined.
The 2024-2025 GS Warriors will see the younger players on the roster (Kuminga, Moody, TJD and Pods) get substantial playing time, especially if Wiggins is traded. If the younger players perform well and excel the team may have a good season.
The entire NBA in 2024-2025 will be interesting to watch. The younger teams may become dominant. The older teams and players may be relegated to the sidelines and ushered at an accelerating pace to retirement and to the history books. The final years of LeBron James will most likely be the equivalent of the swan song of other all time greats, except with more manufactured drama and theater.
D'Angelo Russel sucks. The Warriors know this and if you were an NBA fan, you would know the Warriors already have experienced the Russel show in 19-20, and he's AWFUL. Getting two second-round draft picks for Klay (who's washed) was a win.
Wiggins is a better NBA player than LaVine. Waiving CP3 to clear the salary was the smart move. As far as the Olympics go, he's missed significant playing time the past two years, both due to injury and personal issues. They are well within their rights to put his professional career over the Olympics. Should Kerr and the Warriors so choose, they could easily sue this hack for libel.
The Warriors just won a title in 2022 - the 'fall from grace' is hilariously ignorant.
By the way, if you're going to steal content from Basketball Forever, at least post the link and not try to pass it off as your own.

So, for those interested in the topic of the 2024-2025 version of the Lakers, what do you think the Lakers season will be like. Having father/son teammates for the first time in league history should be interesting. How it plays out is yet to be revealed. Bronny James is going to be under a microscope.
Honestly I'd expect to see them competing for the play-in tourney again. I doubt that they'll be much better in the standings than they've been in recent years, the West is just too deep and LA really hasn't improved their roster other than drafting 1st round pick Dalton Knecht & Bronny. They really doesn't have the assets or cap space to bring in the type of help that could really make a difference and JJ Redick may improve their offense a bit but there's only so much he'll be able to do as a 1st year head coach.
GS just finished a sign & trade for guard Buddy Hield giving up a second rounder to Philly for doing the deal. Between Hield's 9M/yr, Kyle Anderson's 9M and De'Anthony Melton's 13M for 2024, those three will cost just a bit more than CP3's 30M salary and much less than Klay's 43M he made a year ago.
We'll see how those three perform but the Dubs definitely got younger overall.
In what universe does anyone think Bronny on the Lakers is a good idea? Many of us have worked with our dads at Bronny’s age, it’s almost always a disaster. No matter how well-meaning everyone is, the pre-existing relationship inevitably leads to conflict in a situation like this.
I don’t want to judge Lebron as a father, but it sure seems like a very selfish move on his part. Isn’t it obvious that Bronny would be better served making his own way? Unless of course Bronny wouldn’t make the NBA at all without all this orchestration. In that case, I guess dad got him some dough at least.
The crazy thing is Lebron's other son, Bryce, is heading into his senior year of HS in a few months and should be eligible for the 2026 draft. He's 6-4 and just 17yrs old. Rumor has it that he's a better all around player than his brother and who knows if he's done growing yet. Lebron's new contract just happens to have him hitting free agency when Bryce could be entering the NBA. 🤣

If Lebron's 2 sons fathered a child (male, female or somewhere in the middle) now, then in 2043 (if the rules that say you must be one year out of high school to be eligible to be drafted are still in place) new history could be made by Lebron James (who could still be playing at age 59, holding every NBA record).
He could be the first player to play NBA hoops with his grandchild.
SA traded guard Devonte Graham & 2nd rounder to the Hornets and is likely a precursor to adding on more salary in another trade in the near future. They have no reason to dump salary or just give away picks so something else must be happening soon.
SAS has something brewing, just don't know what. they are rumored to be in the mix for a 3-team sign-n-trade involving DeRozan
I've read that Sactown is the likely landing spot for DD and with Chicago not looking to take back any salary, I'd love to see the Spurs land Kevin Huerter's shooting.
@galaxy27 said:
if DeMar ends up in Sactown the Kings are gonna have to be taken seriously next season
Especially if they're able to keep both Murray & Huerter to go along with their new big three of Fox,Sabonis & DeRozan.
The West may end up being deeper than ever with teams like Dallas, New Orleans & Sacramento making moves that could move them up the standings. Its pretty crazy that not to long ago we could say that Lebron, Steph & KD were the top 3 players in basketball and their teams are now likely looking at the Play-In at best.
Looks like that DeRozan trade is finalized.
SAC: DeRozan
CHI: Chris Duarte + two 2nds
SA: Harrison Barnes + future pick swap
Not a bad pickup by the Spurs, Barnes can play both the 3 & 4 and his remaining money is just 18M & 19M over the next two seasons. He'd also be a decent trade target at the deadline if SA goes that route.

hate to pile on the kid, but it's such a joke
I watched last night's LA/Boston summer league game and there was not a single thing that made him standout of the rest of the 2nd rounders & udfa's that were on the court for both teams.
In 25mins/2pts/3reb/1ast/2to/3fouls/1-5 shooting and -22 while on the court and ESPN gushed about him all night.
I used to think that Lavar Ball was a bad father for dropping a mountain of unwarranted pressure on his kids by always running his mouth but I'm starting to think that what Lebron is doing is so much worse. Cool, he lowered his salary just enough on his current deal that LA's savings covered his son's contract but this poor kid is now dealing with so much vitriol all because Pops wanted to play with him in the NBA.
Had Bronny had any other last name he'd be lucky to hear that some team from some random Euro league was interested in signing him.
Boston just gave Sam Hauser a 4yr 45M extension which is a nice raise from his 2M salary that he's due to make in 2024-25.
Celtics fans have spent years bashing Wyc Grousbeck for not being willing to pay for a contender and these are the contracts that the team has handed out just in the past 12 months alone.
Jaylen Brown 5yrs/285M
Jayson Tatum 5yrs/313M
Jrue Holiday 4yrs/134M
Derrick White 4yrs/125M
Kristaps Porzingis 2yrs/60M
Sam Hauser 4yrs/45M
Payton Pritchard 4/yrs/32M
Plus numerous smaller deals for roughly 5-6 other players.
Very soon this core will become the most expensive in NBA history, hopefully there are some more championships in their future.
Wemby & France get the chance to play for the Gold after what was a absolute great performance beating Germany by 4 after coming back from down 10+ earlier. France will play the winner of USA/Serbia.
I'd love to see VIc forget about the threes and just dominate in the paint against likely opponent, Team USA. The team has some great centers in AD, Bam & Embiid but with Wemby's mobility in the paint he could more than hold his own.
Either way, the Gold medal game should be really good rematch for the 2020 GM game where the US beat France by 5 for the Gold.
He is but you could also say that watching Team USA over-celebrate on all of Steph's first quarter threes are pretty much what motivated that Serb backcourt who played lights out.
This US team is one of the best assembly of basketball players in history and Joker plus a handful of his countrymen just almost embarrassed them badly, proof that he's the best player in the world IMO.
Glad we won and really looking forward to seeing Wemby go up against Team USA for the Gold.
I have followed Olympic basketball since 1968 (Mexico City) [19-20 year old Spencer Haywood was dominant].
For 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1960 and 1964 the USA Olympic team won the gold medal with college players (many of whom went on to be NBA HOF players).
The dominance of US players (with teams of college players routinely winning gold medals through 1984 [except in 1972 when referees gave the USSR two do over calls as time was expiring allowing Alexander Belov to score as time ran out to win 50-49]; and except in 1980 when 66 countries including the USA boycotted the Moscow Olympics due to Russia's invasion of Afghanistan) has waned as international competition has improved and mostly caught up with Merica.
The 1988 team of college players did not win the gold medal.
In 1992 USA basketball allowed NBA players (the first dream team) to play, resulting in more USA gold medals in hoops. The men's US Olympic basketball team has won the gold medal in the 1992, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2021 Olympics and in the 2004 Olympics it won a bronze medal.
The 2024 USA v. France gold medal game should be fun to watch and the USA may just win yet another gold medal.
I love that the game has gone global; and that international players are becoming NBA HOF caliber players. However I still like seeing the Red, White and Blue hoopsters win in Olympic and other international play.
Hats off to Knicks guard Deuce McBride for making some kid's day. Pat McAfee did a live show from the WVU campus and had Deuce on who played there in college. McBride had 3 chances to sink a pretty deep shot and the McAfee show would pay some kid's tuition if he makes one. This was Deuce's third attempt and was money. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/JrHpLBGbbrQ
The Knicks & Wolves have pretty much agreed on a major trade that likely involves a 3rd team. The Knicks will Karl Anthony Towns and the Wolves get Julius Randle & Donte DeVincenzo plus some other filler.
I've only watched the two Celtics/Nuggets games played in Abu Dhabi so far during this preseason but if I were to guess how things play out in each conference this year it would be this order...
East:
Boston
Milwaukee
New York
Philly
Cavs
Indy
Orlando
Miami
West:
OKC
Minnesota
Denver
Dallas
Phoenix
LAL
Sacramento
Golden State
As far as my way to early Finals prediction, its definitely Boston/OKC.
Boston brought back their top 10 players and added Lonnie Walker (even if only a training camp deal.)
OKC won the West last season then made the two best offseason roster moves imo by trading for Alex Caruso then signing Isaiah Hartenstein in free agency.
I might have mentioned the Timberwolves here instead but that KAT/Randle trade changed that for me. Not sure on how Randle will fit there but do love that DDV was part of that deal. Didn't really like that deal for the Knicks at all.
I just finished the Starting 5 series on Netflix and highly recommend for any of our hoop fans here. Its 10 episodes long (around 40mins each) and camera crews followed Lebron, Jimmy Butler, Anthony Edwards, Domantas Sabonis & Jayson Tatum for the entire 2023-24 season & playoffs.
I haven't watched either of these two series yet but I'm expecting the Quarterback & Receiver series on Netflix to be somewhat similar, a closer look into the lives of certain players during the season.
Lots of interesting story lines going into the 2024-2025 season, including, but not limited to:
How is Victor Wemby's second season going to play out;
How if Bronny James' rookie season going to play out (will he spend much of the season on the bench or playing in the G League); and
Will the Celtic's repeat.
I've been reading a lot of comparisons of Bronny to former Celtics/Grizzlies defensive wing Tony Allen lately. Allen was a part of the KG/Pierce/Allen 2008 Championship team and from 2011-2017 he made three All-D 1st teams and three 2nd teams.
Tony was 2" taller than Bronny and was a pretty bad overall shooter w/28% from three for his career.
I think many fans just view Bronny as a hustle guy off the bench who may be able to cover slightly bigger wings. He's a pretty bad shooter himself at 26% from three at USC.

i'm gonna need professional help
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

SAS has something brewing, just don't know what. they are rumored to be in the mix for a 3-team sign-n-trade involving DeRozan

if DeMar ends up in Sactown the Kings are gonna have to be taken seriously next season
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet
I've read that Sactown is the likely landing spot for DD and with Chicago not looking to take back any salary, I'd love to see the Spurs land Kevin Huerter's shooting.

Either way, the Gold medal game should be really good rematch for the 2020 GM game where the US beat France by 5 for the Gold.

what an upset that would be

and we storm back 💪
Curry was a beast
you'll never be able to outrun a bad diet

Someone get a fire extinguisher, there's a VW in France that's on fire. 😎
Great game so far.

The Knicks & Wolves have pretty much agreed on a major trade that likely involves a 3rd team. The Knicks will Karl Anthony Towns and the Wolves get Julius Randle & Donte DeVincenzo plus some other filler.
Really not sure that KAT is the type of center that the Knicks are lacking but from a Wolves angle, this should solve some of the major financial issues that they were have expected to have in the very near future. A healthy Randle should be able to replace KAT’s production as the #2 guy.

So, after a couple of NBA preseason games have been played over the past 5 or so days, what teams are going to be playing for the NBA title next June?

So how tall is Bronny James really? Looking like 5'4"
"When they can't find anything wrong with you, they create it!"
Regular season starts next week
Lots of interesting story lines going into the 2024-2025 season, including, but not limited to:
How is Victor Wemby's second season going to play out;
How if Bronny James' rookie season going to play out (will he spend much of the season on the bench or playing in the G League); and
Will the Celtic's repeat.
