Anyone buying the American Buffalo 2024 One Ounce Gold Proof Coin today? Only $3,240

GoldbullyGoldbully Posts: 17,359 ✭✭✭✭✭

I remember owning a set of the 2008-W Gold Buffs, all PCGS 70's with First Strike.

Wish I held on to them now.

Would it make sense to bring the fractionals back with today's sky high gold?

Such a beautiful coin design.

Just saw this set online.

$11,999

Mintage is the same as the 2023 coin.

Are they actually SELLING at numbers like this? 12k! Yikes. I remember '08 & got the 1/4 and 1/2 oz buffs in unc. and proof and didn't really care about the others...

Still have one of my 2006’s. Didn’t they go for around $2k when released?

@MetroD: thanks - you’re right! Terrible memory on my part. I bought two; wish I still had the other one!

_ Thanks for the flashback to the 2008 Buffalo proof set!
I still have one of those Proof Sets in the original package, cool case, along with a set of uncirculated and a few in various single denominations.
I love the nickel sized denomination in the Buffalo gold.

Now riding the swell in PM's and surf.

Miles I am so jealous. I knew I let a good thing go. I’ll have to check my records and see how I did.

Thanks Bully. I love me some Gold Buffalo, and I’ve held onto damn near every gold one I have purchased. No strategy, just hoarding to beat hell.

Could be. If gold has a big correction, there is long a long way to come down.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I have all the fractional 2008 except the one ounces bought originally from the mint. I bought a 2013 Buffalo one ounce from mint but sold it years ago. Gold getting too expensive for me to collect anymore. Maybe have 20 ounces all together though of various gold bought from the mint. Inflation really helping gold prices.

Unless you are holding for the medium or long term, no. If you can wait 5 or 10 years to get your money back out... Not a problem!

One shoulder advisor saw the proof price and said "oh h*** no." The other shoulder advisor saw the entire herd of 2006-present and said "yes, the herd must go on.". Well, the herd has gained another member and is 100% complete once again but DANG those prices!!! I wonder what the 2026 20-year anniversary will be, any guesses? Will it be a four coin set: standard bullion, burnished, proof, and reverse proof? If the mint does an anniversary set I REALLY pray that they are 1/10 oz releases only.

‘’Now $3290? In twenty years that will seem like a steal.’’

If one could find just a 10% annual return over the same period, I believe the cost of that coin would need to be worth about $26,000.00 to equal the cost of the money spent on it today!

    Wondercoin.

Edited to add - by way of comparison only, just year to date my Apple stock is up about 24%! Of course, tomorrow it could crash down in value as could gold.

I was going to, but these 3 were only $4200. And I didn't have any new grandchildren this year , and they're the reason I got them since 2007. But I like 'em.
