Did I Promise These Coins To You?

CladiatorCladiator Posts: 17,997 ✭✭✭✭✭

I'm embarrassed and saddened to say my collection has been considerably downsized. My wife of 16 years decided to divorce me late last year and it has finalized recently. As part of the judgement 75% of my coin collection has been awarded to her. Along with 100% of my silver and gold bullion collection.

Over the years I've committed to offering first right of refusal on several of my coins to a handful of you. During the chaos of the past few months the document where I had recorded whom I was supposed to offer what, if/when I sold, has disappeared. I have no idea what my wife intends to do with these items. All I can say is that our LCS's are Big Oak Coins (Jack Beymer's shop, now owned by Seth of Witter) and Rinkor Rare Coins. I can only assume those shops would have the best chance of getting them if they end up being sold.

If any of the items below were promised to any of you, I guess you could keep an eye on the websites of those two shops and maybe you'll see them in their inventory one day? Who knows. I don't and I'm sorry.

That’s just awful! I am so sorry to hear about this. Certain Women (and men for that matter) can do a 180° turn without any warning. It’s dangerous out there when with the wrong person. It is my sincere hope that you come back even better and stronger than before.

I know this is a rough time for you but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I've been through 2 divorices, the 1st one she got half and 20 years later the 2nd one got half.
You will get past this trust me

Geez I am sorry you had to go threw such a mess my advice is buy a pet if you do not have one already (the love they give you is amazing) and enjoy your hobbies moving forward. Single life for me is simply peace it is worth it!!! I would never exchange that peace ever again.

Any chance you can buy them back from her directly or ask where they will be sold by her? I imagine she is not a collector so she would prefer money that may be your chance to buy them all back from her before she sells them off. Unless she is not that type of ex wife then all bets are off and it may take you time to assemble some of them back.

Keep your head up and stay strong you will be OK over time. Like I said pets are truly the best partners in this day and age.

That's painful to read. Likely, the money wasn't important in this matter, but was just a stand-in for something else. It's a bit hollow for me to write, but I would suggest to attempt to move on and live your life to the best going forward.

Sorry to hear about your divorce, unfortunately I have been down that road as well. One thing I can say is things get better as time passes.

I hope the disproportionate share of coins going to your wife means you were able to retain other valuable assets (such as real estate).

    Sorry to hear the news.

If it were me I might make a few last minute additions to the bullion stash before turning it over to her. Some bargain-basement "bullion" from China might make for some eventful encounters for her when she goes to sell it. ;)

Very sorry for your unfortunate situation. I myself went through this back in 2009. What seemed to be something that she could care less about really peaked her interest when it came time to part ways. Keep in mind, I had most of my collection intact before we even met.
Wishing you well on your new journeys,,

I am very sorry and shocked to hear that. That’s an outrage they would award her 75pct of it. I always saw RCI as a financial privacy investment but that pops that bubble. Good luck moving forward.

Best to keep some stuff to ourselves in life some people can turn on you on a dime. It can be crazy out there there is no doubt about it as you get older the more and more you see things happen to others (and yourself) you learn to protect yourself as much as possible. Sadly that is life. Not all people are bad/evil but some are simple as that and you have to learn to adapt and avoid such people if possible. Otherwise these type of people can take you down with no remorse whatsoever.

Sorry to hear this news. The advice about getting a pet if you don't have one already is good advice. Believe me, better times are ahead. Good luck and best wishes as you start a new life.

Marriage is the chief cause of divorce, and as a lifetime single, not worth it. Saddened to hear of the loss of much of your collection. I am on my second pet, a Shihpoo, he replaced a Pomeranian I had for over 18 years. They are far superior to any spouse.

For you future divorcees. Next time ask the judge for 75% of her hats, shoes, and pocketbooks. Hit her where it hurts.😆

So sorry to hear. These things are rough on people, but as others have said, you’ll get past it.

For those suggesting that it’s a good idea to try to hide assets in a divorce situation….. let’s just say judges have been around the block before and they can sniff that sort of thing out from a mile away. Get caught and it will not end well for you.

Another reason to not getting married in this day and age.

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

Congrats! I know it’s tough but it’s gonna get a lot better real soon.

When my first wife left I gave her everything, anything that will facilitate her going through that door faster and no memories left behind the better. Of course I was a lot younger and she was fricking crazy but if it happened again now it would prolly be the same but I would frequent more the grocery store than the bars. 😁

This may sound like playing dirty but you could give her anything that she may have to pay taxes on, when she sells. It's probably too late for that, just an evil thought.

Nothing to be embarrassed of... saddened for sure. Wow, 75% and 100% are quite large numbers. We've got over 41 together and can't contemplate the disruption in your life this caused far beyond your collection. Good luck, hopefully once things have settled down you can have the opportunity to enjoy the hobby again.
