PCGS Grading Question from a Newbie

Hi all,
I am a newbie here. I collected coins as boy in the 80's, just finished Bower's book on Morgan's and signed up for PCGS to get an idea of what I have. My main question is to what extent “bluffing” helps when submitting coins to PCGS for grading. For example, If I have a Morgan that I think might be Proof-Like and I submit it as ordinary Mint State and the grader does believe it is PL, will they proactively call it PL? Or, would I have to choose the PL option to receive a PL grade? Another example would be the Morgan 7/8 Tailfeather – if I submit as Weak can I get Strong? I guess the question is.... should I always “high-ball” my submissions? Or does it matter at all?
Thanks!

I'm not aware of any "PL option". PCGS submission forms have a little room for comments if you want to specifically ask them to review a coin for PL (but they should do that anyway).
As for your "high-ball" question, I'd encourage you to be as honest as possible when submitting coins. Lying to PCGS is unlikely to accomplish anything good. The "P" in PCGS stands for Professional for a reason.
Thanks Baylor8670 for your reply. What I mean is this: when submitting say an 1878-S Morgan Dollar online you need to choose the PCGS Coin # and for MS that number is 7082 while for Proof Like PL that number is 7083! So just in the first step of the submission process you have to make a decision, one that I am not knowledgeable enough to make with any degree of confidence. Thanks for the info on the comments... I will use that next time I submit.

The online submission form for raw coins won't accept 7083. Use 7082 and ask for a PL review in the comments space.
Generally, I'd use the same approach for other designations, varieties, etc.
Thanks Baylor!

The only advice i can suggest is to call PCGS - Customer Service and ask these questions to them. If they can't answer the question, they can refer it to a person that can and then give you a call back or send you an email.

Thanks JWP. Actually Baylor answered my question, which was probably silly — now that I’ve done 5 subs to PCGS.

Great question! Newbie here also. I’m considering pieces to sub and would like to hear more about the process. Registering through actually packing ,insurance and shipping. Completely relate to being unsure about decisions on forms ,nomenclature and what to expect. Thanks john_nyc1 for asking that question and especially those that replied . Is there an existing thread with more ? Experience gives the best lessons and it’s wise to heed the sage.
Best to call and have PCGS guide you thru the proper submission for what you seek.
