Iβll see your prime and Netflix and raise you a Disney plus! Anyone else?
I don't have the Amazon network...so then on Thursday nights during football season; I'll usually change all of the plumbing in the house over to 1/2"....

I hate these pay wall games. Its just a matter of time until the Superbowl is a PPV event
Wisconsin 2-6 against the SEC since 2007
hey ya Perkdogβ¦
could it be possible if other members here on the forum that do not have the Amazon Prime gig could hang out at your house on Thursday Nights for football ???
and too, what about a trade night before and/or after Thursday night football ??? To where us members could bring over are priceless cardboard & memorabilia and have a trade night ???
I donβt think that pre-game dinner would be an issue either; I would be more that willing to man the grillβ¦
or even a mini raffle going at the end of each quarterβ¦
We could call it...
Bring the beer and we got ourselves a night!!!
what could possibly go wrong with perkdogathon thursday nights

I remember thinking how much money i would save on television when everything went to subscription services. now it is nearly the same amount but split up 15 different ways $6 at a time...
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
Looks like Netflix is getting the Christmas Day games going forward.
The two matchups for 2024 include the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 p.m. ET and an AFC divisional round rematch between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans at 4:30 p.m. ET.

It's all about the bidding by the Networks for the TV contracts with the NFL and continues with the amount of money that the bidders know they can get from advertising. It has nothing to do with how much it aggravates @perkdog or @Maywood, there are clearly enough viewers on those platforms that they don't need the few/many who won't watch. FWIW, I have both Netflix and Prime.
If worse comes to worse and someone really wants to watch a game, just go sit at the neighborhood bar and nurse a six-pack and some wings.
Apparently in the past the nfl had said they wouldnβt play on Wednesday. So Christmas is on Wednesday and guess whatβ¦β¦. Game on! I think Goodell would push a little girl out of the way if he spotted a dollar bill on the ground and she was about to pick it up.
and all AFC teams playing on the 25th...Too Werid playing on Wednesday...
If it ain't on free,
It ain't for me.
in a way, this makes me glad Tommy is now retired. I was able to watch about 99% of his career games. I think I only missed 2 or 3 for his entire career. I am afraid this is just the beginning of the PPV sports trend. I LOVE to watch the NFL, but I HAD to watch Tommys games. now a days, if I miss a game here and there I will survive.
George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.
After Directtv did not renew the NFL ticket last year I watched less football then I have in the last 25 years, and 25 years ago was the 1st year I ordered NFL sunday ticket. I did not miss anything last year not watching the Dolphins vs Chiefs game wild card round, now this year I will not be watching football on Xmas day, and I will not order You tube NFL package, looks like for me anyway baseball has taken over football as my go to sport, the way it use to be back in the 70's and 80's, for me anyway.
Exactly right, and frankly, the money that companies pay to advertise, etc, of course is factored into the cost of the products we buy. They and the NFL make big money off it anyway even when broadcast for free. That should be good enough in my view, not trying to draw blood from a stone for crying out loud.

I've read where around 2/3 of American families are living paycheck to paycheck. All they ask is for some football entertainment at no extra cost in their lives.
Well the greedy bastiges in the NFL and media won't get a red cent from me. Frankly, I enjoy the free radio broadcast almost as much as the video anyway.
Just say NO
oh snap

There ya go. Just stop buying the product.
I'd like to know why those two fans were there?
Did they mistakenly think it was going to be a Rolling Stones concert, and wanted to get there early?
Might have been the game last year where tickets cost less than 50 cents each

Bring the beer and I will do the grilling, open invite!!!!
I will watch whatever is free of the NFL games.
I like football but will not pay to watch it anymore.
My Direct tv is over $200 a month now and it has to stop somewhere.
I will not stop the baseball package but week some of the other things in the package.
hey ya Perkdog...
don't really drink much beer anymore....Um a bourbon would be ideal...though I don't want to risk Fallin' Down and getting New Parts again...That Wouldn't Be Cool...
since on Thursday Nights which you'll have the home field advantage...
and after the coin flip; I'll elect to defer and go with a Surf & Turf Play-Action...
starting with crab nachos & steak tacos...now there's No Flannel showing, so these images/JPEG's are stolen from the World Wide Web...
Cool...Cool...Cool...
I gotta go play Penguin and sit on some ice...
Bourbon it is!!
hey ya Perkdog...
When are we gonna have...A Grillin' & Chillin' Thursday Showdown before Game Time ???
Here's my play chart...
Shrimp ceviche w/ grapefruit, spring onions, mangos, and maybe a serrano or two if I'm feelin' whimsical...
Grilled vegetables and baked sweet potatoes over apple wood...
Then go with a jalapeno & tomatillo verde flank steak...
And then... honeyed blueberry icy's

The NFL has been PPV since 1994 when Sunday Ticket launched. It proved so popular, that they started adding on a la carte programming (for $100) and NFL fans lapped it up.
This proliferation of programming is a natural evolution. Had NFL fans decried the ridiculous pricing, or demanded team Sunday Ticket packages, this spread of games would have never occurred. It is pretty ironic, though, the most politically conservative folks (those who claim to love the free market) sure seem to hate it when their products get more expensive as a result of it.

Gouge the poor, and the blue collar fan that's what @Mistlin supports ( Excuse me Axtel ).
At no point did I ever state I am in favor of gouging "the poor and blue-collar fan". I don't even support the NFL - it's actively a boring and unwatchable sport.
I simply pointed to the FACT that people ponying up hundreds of dollars per year for Sunday Ticket for decades has led to the proliferation of games across multiple pay outlets.
Had the fans refused to pay these outrageous sums for out-of-market games, then it would not have gotten to this point. Alas, NFL fans are where they are now based exclusively on their past behavior. I know it is difficult for some people to own up for their actions, but games being spread out across multiple platforms is a direct result of Sunday Ticket's mass adoption.

Well free market is all well and good, I support that but when it goes to the extreme then I hit the pause button.
Christmas, Saturday Monday, Sunday Prime time and Thursday games were always available to watch, if you want to pay to watch out of network games on Sundays then that's on the individual
But now Thursday is a pay to watch and now they are talking about other pay per view events like I posted in my OP
That is trying to squeeze people who got used to watching games on regular TV and I don't support that
I will watch a game now and then if it's free but it's not worth paying a price for it. I dont need to see more car and beer ads that bad.! My Caris only 5 yrs old with less than 25 K miles on it and I dont drink alcohol.

Open invite brother!!!
What is the 'extreme'? Are you paying more or less for TV today than 20 years ago? Between just 2019 and 2022, pay-TV services lost over 6 million subscribers. DirecTV has (by itself) lost over 13 million subscribers since 2016.
It is not as if Thursday night games have been around forever - I had to look it up, and they started in 2006 and the schedule was limited to just 8 games. It is also a long running joke of just how bad, year in and year out, Thursday night games are. They also were on NFL network which required a cable/satellite subscription and were not available over the air.
All that said, while NFL games are available through more channels than ever (and keeping what games are are on what channel can be a daunting task), its likely less expensive today to watch them all than ever before.

Whether the Thursday night game is a good matchup or not it's rights we're sold to Amazon which is another billion dollar industry, sure "TV" is more expensive now than 20 years ago but so isn't everything else and of course TV is more expensive because of the massive amounts of different Networks and PPV channels, your getting a lot more options than ever.
The point is that If someone choses to pay for Thursday night games then that's fine what is extreme is the NFL and their multi billion dollar industry wants to prostitute itself out to other networks that charge to view.
As I said to what end will it be?
Monday Night?
Sunday Night Prime Time?
Thanksgiving?
Christmas?
Saturday December games?
Playoff Games?
The Super Bowl?
Your going to be ok if the NFL decides to sell the right to view all these games out to different networks so you have to buy multiple Channels??
In other words if it came down to it you wouldn't complain if NFL. was only available on Sunday at 1 and 4pm???
You hit the nail on the head my friend. They have changed football from an exciting game into a game of touch football so no one gets hurt except the fans who are stupid enough to pay the any price to watch a game. I opt out myself but that is a personal choice.
Perk,
What I said was the average consumer's TV bill has decreased over the past decade, not increased. With tens of millions of consumers cutting TV/satellite programming altogether, those dollars are being reallocated to streaming services, and most people are paying less now than with a premium TV subscription, and getting more, unique programming than ever before.
Thursday night games will be on Prime Video. if you aren't already an Amazon Prime subscriber and only want it for games, you can add it for $14.99 per month.
Sunday Night games on NBC, free over-the-air. Should you not want to go that route, you can subscribe to Peacock for $7.99 per month.
Monday night football continues on ESPN. Sling TV is available at $40 a month which includes ESPN. Local channels are included in most markets, so you can watch broadcast games as well.
I would surmise $62.99 a month (the cost for the above three packages) is a heck of a lot less expensive than what you were paying for cable TV in 2004.
