Big time shout out to my friend bad bad @Leeroybrown who kindly pointed out this coin for me from his LCS. This date was a big hole in my set and I was thrilled to fill it with this quality coin in MS62 CAC. A few months ago, I also had an opportunity to meet Mr. Brown where we had a great time looking over his Dansco album full of nice circulated Seated Halves. So great to have coin buddies. I am forever indebted to him for finding this specimen for me! Hope you likey.

That is really nice, @Catbert!
Mr. Brown has a good eye for coins. Ask him to show his 1851 date set?
Nice!
Nice, any reverse rotation?

The coin is not fully centered in the slab so it is a little challenging for me to answer your question. I think there is a slight rotation on the reverse.

Nice pick up
Great coin! @Leeroybrown is a good friend and solid as an oak.
Congrats. I truly love nice and original lower MS grades. You get all of the coin without all of the cost.
Saw this one on Instagram, what a wonderful coin! Here's what CoinFacts says about this date:
"The 1842-O Half Dollar, Medium Date, Reverse of 1842 has a fairly hefty mintage of 754,000 coins. In most circulated grades, this date is very common. At the MS60, the population drops off and the price jumps to approximately double that of a common date. Mint State examples, which are usually MS63 to MS64, are quite scarce. The best example is a PCGS MS65 from the celebrated Eugene H. Gardner collection."
In all my years of looking for this date in circulated condition (raw or graded), this date is anything but "very common." And that mintage of 754k is not exactly "hefty" either. Hell, the regular 1842 Philly issue had just over 2 million minted. Perhaps that could be called hefty.
This date isn't a major rarity but it sure isn't very common either.

Very nice, I love early New
