I don't think they go nearly far enough in this article but there is a point here.

‘’Today, not only is it surprisingly hard to find 50 State quarters in change, period, but raw Mint State examples worth more money are downright scarce.’’

They may be “scarce”, but I see literally thousands of BU rolls that can’t be sold week after week, month after month at about 31 cents per quarter (asking price) shipped. This is not surprising because after about 24 years, many of the coins sheet at just 27 1/2 cents per quarter. If money doubles every roughly 7-8 years, many of these BU state quarters have essentially cost about $1.75 each to hold and currently sheet at just 27 1/2 cents! I know-I’ve been sitting on about (5) $1000 bags in that time period. I can sell them today for maybe $5,500 - $6,000 net (for the $5,000 face) and I lost roughly $30,000 in appreciation on my $5,000 face of these quarters over the 24 year time period!

Is this calculation the real story of these coins?

    Just my 2 cents.

P.S. I am determined to dispose of the $5,000 face in state quarters this year as I can’t bear to face the $60,000 recalculated loss of appreciation on my money just a few years from now if I don’t!!

I bought mint sewn bags of 2000 P & D Massachusetts State Quarters. $50 face, for $70. Bet I'm still underwater on them.
