Best Date/MM Walking Liberty Half for strike...

lkeneficlkenefic Posts: 8,160 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hey Everyone... I'm looking to replace the Walking Liberty Half in my 7070. Is there a particular date/mm that typically comes fully struck? I see a lot of weak strikes in 1940s dated pieces...

1939-P is one that comes to mind, the mint did a great job in that year on many coins

    1936 comes hammered
46 and 47 come with good strikes

Avoid most S mint strikes except the 29-s
Avoid the D mints after 41
The 1916 comes with a great strike and you can find a nice matte/satiny surfaces... would look good in a 7070

    The 36 does come nice.

    Have a good day, Gary

43P is probably the easiest and cheapest, for a single type piece, though as pointed out there are many other dates.

Thanks Everyone! I think my search filtered a lot of San Francisco mint coins to the top and I just noticed a number of MS pieces where its difficult to see Ms. Liberty's hand or a portion of skirt lines...

The 34S is one of the few San Francisco issues that comes pretty well struck. Many dates have poor strikes.

I agree. 1941 and 1942 also come very nice and are cost effective.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍
