A friend brought this card over for my review, and I was unable to determine the card's authenticity. Would appreciate honest and though-out responses. I scanned both front and back using varied scanner settings for better,
more accurate analysis.

It isn't on the right stock.
'Tis a reprint.
Gobble.
Where you see the card having corner bends, you can see the white color underneath. Legit would be gray paper throughout.

You stated, "A friend brought this card over for my review"
Perhaps because he's your friend, you can ask him about the provenance behind the card? That may tell you all you need to know. I mean at this point in time, a genuine card such as this isn't going to turn up at some garage sale. Everybody and their mother knows these days that Mickey Mantle cards are valuable, and would have had it checked out before your friend got a hold of it.
Perhaps if it's an honest story about a very old man recently passing who had a card collection as a kid, and this is one of the cards, then there's a chance of it being genuine.
Is it for sale?

What do the other 52 topps cards in the collection like? Oh he only has the Mantle...
Thanks for sharing this. Always a good reminder as we come into prime collection season. Information can also apply to many other fake cards.
For peace of mind, I would recommend sending to PSA or SGC for authentication. Not knowing for sure, 100%, would drive me nuts...lol. The $15 would be well spent.
I believe that it would be a tad more than $15 lol

And a T206 Wagner that was just pulled from an old cigarette pack. 😉
Without in hand analysis, it’s hard to say for sure. Here’s what I can say:
It’s the Type 2 front and a pretty good match as they were often ‘darker’ but the back, I think, has the seams on the baseball that houses the number “311” facing the wrong way for this type and, I think, the font on your ‘311’ is a bit thick.
It definitely gave me pause; Inwould not just dismiss that card out of hand and I would say it is worth further investigation.
Hope this helps.
PS - I asked earlier if it was for sale; not looking to buy it but whether he’s trying to sell it would add information to the card.

Did you look at it under a 30x loupe? Because. You know.
Black Light it...
Color looks very dull. On all the 1952 Mantle cards on Ebay the colors on the front look very bright.
@1951WheatiesPremium is correct -- the posted scan of the front is a type "B" and the back is from a type "A" (there are actually numerous differences on both the front and back between the two '52 Topps Mantle variations but the most obvious difference on the back is the seams of the baseball on a type "A" go up and type "B" go down).
That said, this definitely appears to be a fake unfortunately as the front and back are mismatched. . .
OP stevegarveyfan - where you at?
