This coin joins my Pan-Pac gold dollar and silver half dollar, all in PCGS holders. I purchased this one today at the local coin show using a 79-CC Morgan dollar in a partial trade for this coin. I'm in no position to purchase the $50 gold slugs and may go my entire life not achieving it, and I'm okay with that.
I love the design of these Pan-Pacs, especially the $2.5 coin, and I feel like it's Barber's best design. Feel free to GTG and offer any opinions you may have. Thanks for looking...

Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

Great piece
The half is my favorite classic commem
Nice!
I will guess AU 53
Lovely.
Having fun while switching things up and focusing on a next level PCGS slabbed 1950+ type set, while still looking for great examples for the 7070.
I like it and the series. I'd guess/say AU53 also.
Sugar magnolia blossoms blooming, heads all empty and I don't care ...
Awesome coin I'm jealous. I would guess AU50.
Like you, I have the dollar and the half. The 2.50 is on the ol'bucket list I really love that design! Congrats!
53-55. I really like those.
Looks nice . I would guess AU-50. 50's may be out of reach but can always get some nice copy slugs, for a complete set.
I'll guess AU55. The obverse design of the Pan-Pac $2.5 is very cool and shows Miss Liberty riding on the back of a Hippocampus while carrying a caduceus symbolizing the conquest of yellow fever while building the canal. It's one of my favorite US coin designs.

Some good guesses so far but no bullseye yet… keep in mind the strike on these tends to be soft… I’ll reveal the answer later on Monday.

Hmmm, sounds like you are hinting at 58 but I am also in the 55 (at best) category. There is also a possibly worrisome "splotch" of oxidation above the "M" of AMERICA.
BUT, a very nice coin and congratulations.
Well, just Love coins, period.
Grade revealed in the first post and below. I'm surprised there were no MS guesses but this coin is difficult to capture on camera. Thank you all for guessing and for the kind words about the coin!

Nice grade, @anablep. Nice Gen 4.0 holder too.

I would have guessed 58 on this one. Clean up the holder and get better lighting on it and maybe it'll look less AU. It would look better in a new holder, too. Nice coin!

Nice coin.
One of my top five favorite designs of any United States coin.
Congratulations on finding one that is unmolested and choice.
This type is difficult enough yet add the additional chore of finding a nice one
makes it a challenge that once accepted and then gained is ultra rewarding.

I would guess AU-55.
Yes, many people rate Charles Barber's design with the hippocampus as "his masterpiece."
Oddly enough, a female artist, Evelyn B. Longman, was chosen to design the quarter eagle, but she had to withdraw because of illness.
Nice coin. I love those. I was very tempted by one recently -- it's really more than I need to be spending on a coin right now but I had to have a real talk with myself about it.
