My mind reader refuses to charge me....
Someone post a '38 dime. I believe it was the first branch mint coin minted.

Super coins. Something about the way the "O" stands out. My granddaughter is a pre-med student at Tulane. Her 3X great grandfather graduated from there in 1861 when it was the University of Louisiana, at the time the CSA took over the mint. WWII museum is now a must-see. Great city.
Here’s a dime from early in the service life of the mint in New Orleans.
The dime and a younger, larger sibling are in the bottom row here with a bunch of northerners.
My birth city... here is the first gold coin they birthed from the New Orleans Mint, and one of my first coin purchases of 2024.
Forgive the terrible image, and I forgot get an image of the back before I put it up, but its unattributed Medal Turn -180 degree rotated die.
She's a worn out ole DOG living in a third party house of ill repute, but I still love her...

Some of my better New Orleans Mint pieces.
Last year of the New Orleans Mint coinage:
(not my coin)
The infamous "1840 (O)" half dollar which was made at the New Orleans mint,
but is missing the O mint mark because they used a reverse from the 1839-O bust half dollar
where the mint mark was on the obverse!

Sorry, I'm always the one bringing threads down a few notches! 😉

Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.
Bought this one raw... once I got it graded it wasn't nearly as cool, so sold it off.
🥴
My family has deep roots in south Louisiana (we settled there in the 1760s), so I collect New Orleans coins specifically because that's what my ancestors would have used in their commerical activities. I'm working on a first year New Orleans gold set. I started with the hardest ones first... 1839-O Quarter Eagle, 1854-O $3, 1840-O Half Eagle, and the 1841-O Eagle. The Eagle was a tough one to find.
An ‘ol South coin for sure

Big and small , the dollar looks like a sunrise on the Bayou in hand
Here’s a pretty little barber lady.
I bought this one on the BST about 15 years ago.
Great thread. Here are some favorites:
As close as I'll get to having an 1838-O.
Only a scratch, no hole. 8-(
Some of the best toned Morgans come from New Orleans!
Posted this one in another thread previously, but it belongs in this one too!
