My first GTG, go easy. Grade, stickers...
The luster in hand is much better than my pictures indicate. More pictures a few posts down the page
Thanks for playing.

    I hate going first! 64/65?

    EDIT: I guess that's second. 😉

64+. Seems to be lacking much in the way of chatter or hairlines.

What is preventing her from being 65? Is that really the true color of this piece?

  • jfriedm56jfriedm56 Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭✭✭

Looks like a 65 with very clean surfaces especially on the reverse.

With luster more than the pics and an NGC holder, I’m going 65+

Ruh-roh, my pictures look better than I thought? Here are the TPGs glamor shots for comparison.

62+. I know the coin looks great over all, but those hits on the obverse are deep and distracting to me.

63 at best, to my eye, agreeing about the deep & distracting hits. But it seems like a lot of that is tolerated at higher grades, from my observation of other examples. So, I wouldn't be shocked by 65.

MS63 based on less than stellar pics.

Looks like an ms64 to me. No sticker unless it's a 63.
    Very nice coin.

  • Great luster. Great reverse (at minimum, 65). Marks on the neck and not totally hidden in the hair definitely diminish… I’m guessing 64+… Bit on the fence for a sticker, but leaning yes…

I like it as a 64, NGC would probably call it a 65

    64, no bean

  • NickelMikeNickelMike Posts: 194 ✭✭✭

She’s pretty but I think 63 no bean. Those hits are deep

  • Wahoo554Wahoo554 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭✭✭

    63 CAC

  • TonedeafTonedeaf Posts: 239 ✭✭✭✭✭

The lighting makes the hits look worse then they are in hand. I am not good at taking pictures of coins. The TPG images are not very good either, in my opinion. A lot of credit has to be given to people that can capture, accurately, a picture that represents what the coin looks like in hand.
Thanks to everyone that gave their opinion, all are appreciated.
There are 3 firsts for me, one is this GTG post, two is a + grade and three is a green bean! I didn't buy this coin for the grade or the sticker, I like the way it looks and I got a reasonable deal on this purchase. 63+ green CAC.

    Very nice coin.

It just goes to show how difficult it is to grade a coin from pictures. Okay, the pictures weren’t the greatest, but the range of guesses was 62-65.

  • BillJonesBillJones Posts: 33,991 ✭✭✭✭✭

I would have said MS-63+ or 64 in the NGC holder.

PCGS graded this one, from the same era. MS-64.

I think that overall, the guesses would have been closer to the assigned graded if the first set of images had been excluded.

I think that the guesses were all good. And, I will refrain from GTGs unless I have TPG images. :)
