Postal Advice please... Missing pacakges

RelaxnRelaxn Posts: 993 ✭✭✭✭✭

So we live on a dead in road in pseudo-rural Texas. At the beginning of the road is a bank of mailboxes and the USPS uses those mailboxes for our mail. All other delivery folks deliver to the house including Amazon. The last month I have had a series of packages going missing.. The packages consisted of my AKC medals that I collect as well as other esoteric kennel medals from early 20-40's. The problem is the tracking says the packages were delivered.
Most everything goes through our PO box but there are some instances where we cannot use the PO Box. Who do I talk to about A) The missing packages- I Spoke to my mail guy and he just gave me the bewildered look of.. It says it was delivered B) How do I get mail delivered to the house and out of those banks of mailboxes? Anyone had ANY luck doing this?

Frustrated in Texas

If this is a recurring issue, talk to your postmaster or bring it up the chain, possibly including the postal inspectors. With that said, why can't you use your PO Box? If the problem is specific to USPS, all mail they handle should be able to go to your box.

How about putting a hold on all your mail and then go pick it up?

Talk to the manager in charge of your local post office. Start there.

My PO became a satellite of the larger town next door and sometimes they mark it as delivered when it gets accepted into that facility. Not sure if that's part of your issue.

If you are seeing it as delivered somewhere then that means it's tracked, and in that case I'd be rattling the cage the day it went missing.

In your case, definitely have a talk with the Postmaster.

However, if you can have it delivered to your USPS street cluster box then you could have it delivered to your PO box. I never use my street address for delivery of anything unless there is no USPS option.

We finally got a PO Box bc of misdelivered mail/packages. As our local post master pointed out, there are alot of contract mail carriers in our area now, and things just go missing. So get a PO Box. Worked.

Some items will not ship to the PO Box and we use the physical address on some of our cards and those cards end up on file with ebay and they wont let me change from the physical to the PO Box.

    So

Go tomorrow and meet with post office management about missing packages?

The issue, also, is our PO Box is at a post office in one town but mail for our home goes through a different post office.

Beyond frustrated as these AKC medals can be pricey and they are getting harder to find.

I WANT my mail delivered to my home. I offered to pay the mail guy 50$ a month to deliver to my home but he declined.

    Will update but...

If you have a cluster box arrangement then the carrier has to deliver there. Maybe registered or signed-for has to go to the actual house.

Not sure how it works (or why) but I can select my preferred address on ebay when I pay.

We had one of those rural boxes for a few years. Mail was always messed up. Some were put in wrong boxes, luckily we had honest neighbors, and some posted as delivered but didn't actually get delivered for a couple days. They always blamed them on contract carriers. Most our packages we paid extra if possible to the bigger carriers because they would deliver to the house.

Each time I have posted a search for missing mail on usps dot com, it has been found. Fortunately the need to do that is few and far between, about five times out of nearly 1000 orders in five years.

I'm not fully understanding this, but I'll offer that if ebay is hassling you about addresses then open up a new ebay buying only account. also, none of my addresses say "PO Box." I use the street address of the PO and follow it with "Unit ###"

The issue, also, is our PO Box is at a post office in one town but mail for our home goes through a different post office.

this is how you want it

There is a standardized way to form addresses based on the difference between USPS and other carriers.

    https://pe.usps.com/businessmail101?ViewName=DeliveryAddress

Automated mail processing machines read addresses on mailpieces from the bottom up and will first look for a city, state, and ZIP Code. Then the machines look for a delivery address.

Carriers such as FedEx, UPS, et al read down.

    Address as

    YOUR NAME
    street address
    PO Box 123
    City State Zip

USPS reads up and uses the PO Box
FedEx/UPS read down and use the Street address
