I told myself I would never buy a 38D Nickel As It Is The Ultimate Widget. But I couldn’t resist the look of the coin as it just spoke to me and said” buy me I am beautiful “. The older blue holder was a plus for me as well. As my coin buying has progressed I am now only considering coins with knockout eye appeal. Your thoughts are most welcome good or bad.

I like it! It looks like it has terrific luster. These often have a rather mangy look in the central obverse details, in my experience, but this one appears like it is a bit better struck than most. There is very little downside, in my opinion, for a coin such as this and they are always desirable.

The mint system had the 1938-D Buffalo Nickel made at the Denver Mint early in the year because they couldn't the Jefferson Nickel out at that time. There was a concern that there might have been a shortage of nickels. Those concerns were unfounded. Many of them were saved in rolls in Mint State.
