Hobby Camaraderie - Met a Fellow Board Member for Lunch Yesterday!

CatbertCatbert Posts: 7,169 ✭✭✭✭✭

Prior to the holidays, I noted that one of our very own members here, @calgolddiver, lived near me. I reached out to him via a PM and we agreed to get together. Well, we had lunch at a local BBQ joint yesterday and did a show and tell. What fun! He collects coins that I know nothing about and it was great to learn about his treasures and compare notes. We'll do it again someday and I felt like I gained a friend.

I'm sharing this story because it's so nice to connect with fellow hobbyists since, beyond this forum, who/where else can we share our passion about coins? My family has no interest. As such, it can become a isolated joy that, when shared, deepens one's enjoyment of the hobby. Yes, I know, I could join one of the local clubs and perhaps I'll do that.

I also had this experience at the FUN show having dinners with the likes of @spacehayduke, @ldhair, @BillJones, @Floridafacelifter, @DeplorableDan, and @FlyingAl (and seeing @winesteven on the bourse floor). It adds so much to the experience to meet other enthusiasts.

So, if you have introversion inclinations, make the effort to engage! :)

    I’ll extend the invitation again….

When in Cincinnati, give me a shout.

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
