Thought I should grab some Gold to end the year when I saw this NGC piece listed at David Lawrence Rare Coins. Price was just a little above spot and I liked the look of it.

That is neat. The real thing is out of reach for most of us, but, given the price of gold, that one is expensive enough.
I believe that many of these were made from gold bars that were salvaged from the SS Central America. The bars didn't sell well because of their weight so it was decided to turn some of them into these commemorative pieces.
Very cool item to own. Congrats.

Very cool! I really like the gem proof Kellogg $50 too, and have been contemplating buying one of those.

Nice big gold coin.
Wow! I love it!
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Now get a matching one in silver (I think they were made in both).

vegas, baby!
I've had my eye on those ever since they were made....Neat piece!
Congrats @willy. I've also had my eye on one of those commems. I think Heritage has a few 1851/1852 Humbert's listed in their January FUN auction.

It's not centered within the slab!
Still totally cool though. . .
(NGC, please be more aware.)

Ironically, they contain more gold than the originals (2.5 oz vs 2.41875).
