A full set of Walking Liberties in a Whitman album

My original Whitman album had some damage as the blue paper was peeling off the back, this happened on more than 1 page. I recently decided to upgrade the album, but something about silver coins in a Whitman look really nice. So I purchased a new Whitman and moved the coins over. For a while I was planning on selling these as I didn't like looking at the peeling blue paper, but with the move to the new album, I'm happy to still have the set.

Looks good. I bet getting them into the new album with the solid pages and clear clean plastic did give it a kind of new freshness.

That's a terrific set you have!

Fantastic looking set of WL halves. No way you can sell something like this ... way too cool. I can also tell you've taken your time selecting these specific coins. All are great examples.

Great looking set, and I approve of your choice of albums.

Thanks Dave!
There are 4 coins I’ve been meaning to upgrade, my kids got me me 2 for Christmas and I’ll get the other 2 soon, but otherwise this was one set that I did try to get original coins.

@hfjacinto, nice looking set of Walkers Helder. Congrats on your new album!
Old school collecting
Love it!!😊
Thanks for sharing!
Way cool, I'm glad you kept it as a set as well
Seems like we've been hearing a lot about damaged Whitman albums lately.

Bravo! that is totally fantastic!!!!! what a treasure.
I look at a set like that and just say, Aaaaah!! Beautiful!
Just perfect; congrats
Nice assembly.
Salute !!
Beautiful set and the Whitman blue album looks nice with all that silver.
This is the 2nd Whitman album that fell apart. The 20th century type set the cover came off. This one was the blue off peeling of the paper. I'm hoping they fixed the sets as I really like the way coins look with the blue.

That’s a really lovely set!
Super cool and one of my favorite all time coin designs.
Congratulations 🙂

I love the look of a completed album with big silver coins... looks like victory! ;-)

Thank you all for the nice comments. I have about 4 coins I want to upgrade (the 1921 S has a scratch, the 1947 D and 1939 D and S. Once I get those I’ll do another thread with the updates.

That set would look nice anywhere.
Bring back album collecting! Way better than looking at a bunch of bulky slabs!
The blue folder background helps to make the silver standout. Nice group.

Not all full (obviously). Slowly progressing... but moving more towards slabbed set building. (Duplicate albums exist because some albums contain liberated mint set and proof set coins.)

Should CAC start putting stickers on albums? You know this album meets the criteria for CAC (e.g. no road rashed parking lot coins?)

I put my labels on the albums next to coin, some pages get a little busy with the larger labels. Some folks put on the front & back covers or on inserts which is also a great idea. I have them all, NGC, ANACS, ICG, PCGS and even a CAC approved PCGS.
I take pictures of the coins in the slabs before I break them out.

Great set! Each coin is very nice for the grade!!
Great display and discussion Helder. Love the fact that you completed the entire WLH set. Before slabs were conceived, this was the
way all of us started collecting coins- that is, filling up our albums. Here’s one of the many sets from my early days of collecting where I hand picked each coin. These Franklins have been in this album at least 40-50 years with a few added Kennedys
Thanks all!
In some ways slabs have ruined aspects of the hobby for me. It was so nice looking through piles of coins finding the ones that have nicer appeal (basically you are your green/gold bean). Taking them home, removing them from the flip. Looking at the coin raw, putting it in the album and another hole filled.
It was an enjoyable experience and honestly something that I missed doing. I’m now driving from coin shop to coin shop looking for that perfect coin/value for the empty whole. I recently picked up 2 more coins.
I’m now thinking about getting some upgrades for my Mercury dime album.

@hfjacinto It’s really cool to see an old-school album full of walkers. I remember when this used to be a much more common sight. Nicely done. @coastaljerseyguy I really like your idea of saving the labels. Adds a deeper appreciation for the album.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Nice set! I like the Whitman album as IMO it displays the coins nicely.

Some minor updates.
The 1921 S had a scratch and I didn't like it, so that one was upgraded.
The last 2 pages, I drove to all the local coin shops and picked up the last few that I didn't have in BU.

I always thought if I were going to display the inserts in the album, I would get a Dansco currency page and puth them neatly on 3x5 cards and insert them in these pages at the back of the book.
For future reference, you might want to take pictures of the slabs "before" you crack them out!

Very nice set!
I totally agree. I have cracked out a few to add to my Dansco album. I don't plan on selling them.
Something to be said about a raw shimmering coin.
Slabs are okay too!

Nice upgrade on a key date coin. When you have the complete series collection there are usually a few you wish you had a better coin. When its a key date, your eyes are usually drawn to those first and I know it bugs me to upgrade those sooner then later.
Last picture, the full Walker collection. The ones in flips and tube are duplicates, which I'm using as a stack, but may eventually sell.

Fantastic Thread. Love the idea of cracking to fill holes. I might have a hard time on super expensive stuff but in general I think this works well.
