With all of the so-called “Official” threads posted, perhaps we need an “Official” thread forum. 😉

MFeldMFeld Posts: 13,879 ✭✭✭✭✭

What constitutes an “Official” thread?
What are the posting guidelines or rules for such threads?
What if another poster starts a different “Official” thread on the same topic?
Who decides when or whether a thread is “Official”?

Please note - regardless of the answers to the above questions, this is not an “Official” thread.

Somebody better post a picture of a coin quick... not sure this is "Officially" should be an "Official Coin Forum"
    thread.

One look at the BST in Trading Cards and Memorabilia will show someone taking great advantage of the weekend. Took the whole page with single sales. Makes Mark look like a choir boy.

I just happened to look at the first page of the PCGS forums and you are so right on Mark, seems like every other post is the "official" topic of something or another.
I really didn't notice until you brought it up.

I dislike the "official thread for coins of this date thread", because they are probably just going to die out, but I enforce the "official" threads about a subject, that have continuous posting.

In other words, I think that an "official" thread should stand for a thread that is continuously updated by various posters. It makes things interesting.

It's been said many times, many ways just a title note to consolidate info on a particular subject to a single thread to avoid looking up many threads on the same subject. Nothing official about it as this is an open forum. This is evident by all the $$$ holes who line up to troll and complain. You show who you are to all on the forum by what you post. LOL :D:D:D

    Yup. You just did....🙄

I'm waiting for the official Vaultbox thread.

  • I appreciate you calling out this practice. If the premise is consolidation, doing so by year seems far too broad, and simply an obvious attempt to be the originator of a thread, irrespective of its actual value from a consolidation standpoint. So can I not post a 18xx coin anywhere but the self proclaimed “official” thread? What if I don’t want my question buried in the vagaries of an attempt to monopolize a year? I am not an aficianado.

Never gonna happen. Remember? The Mod closed the last one stating this incorrectly:

You guys should just start a DM thread, the same 2 or 3 people every time.

There were 12 different members that had posted comments and it looked like we were beginning to be able to discuss the topic.😎

Doesn't it seem like PCGS just wants to shut them down? I don't exactly get it, but there isn't any real reason to shut them down otherwise. Even though there's always a sermon or even a filibuster, they have been less insulting than they used to be. I just don't think PCGS wants them discussed.

I mean, they never shut down offal like "look at the silver I found in a bank box" threads. They don't close parking lot coin threads. But they always shut down VB threads.

I believe the difference may have something to do with VB having a business relationship with another prominent grading company and including those slabbed coins in their boxes.
Unless a VB collector is considering cracking their coin for a regrade with PCGS, there’s likely no relevance here except the coins themselves- which are already graded- by another company.

As for roll searchers and even coin star finds, there’s always a chance that some fine specimens and errors will end up going to our host, or another service, for encapsulation. A couple of the prominent roll searchers on this very forum have actually submitted several of their finds for grading as well.
Can’t say the same thing for VB. It’s unlikely many will be candidates for crossovers IMO.

That is one theory. However, NGC coins and CACG are frequently discussed and they are direct competitors. VB is not.

There are numerous CRH threads just bragging about finding silver. None of those coins will ever go to PCGS.

Really? Look at VB5. Virtually every red core is a crossover candidate.

"Official" has become just another weasel-word, like "rare" and "authentic" - a word that sounds it should hold significant meaning, but really doesn't.

"Official" is the adjective from "office", and "office" itself is a fairly generic word without a rigidly defined meaning. Do you have an office? Or work in an office? Or have an area of your home you've self-declared to be your office? Or maybe you just walk past an office on the way to your morning coffee? Then congratulations, you too can officially designate yourself and anything you do as "official".
