How long do I have to keep this Morgan in my pocket to get a p1 grade?

For fun I am keeping this worn 1900s Morgan in my pocket to see how long it will take to get to a grade of p1. 🙂
I think it’s ag/f now so I still may have years to go. Good chance I will give up before I reach the goal.
What do you think?

Right now I wold say you are at a AG3 so it may take a while yet to get down to a PO1
Don’1 forget that if the date is unreadable, it can’t be graded.
10-15 years. Don't put it in a pocket with keys.

Agree. Only carry it with common date coins.

There is no such grade as G3.

Correct, typo on my part, should be AG3. Have fixed the post.
Thanks for noticing that.
A lot of scratches on the obverse. Were they there before you got the coin?
Front pocket or back?
Overalls
Shorts
Dress pants
Suit
Tuxedo
Add some dirt, diamonds, tungsten and cobalt wedding rings to the mix.
Greenstang: hmmmm your right the way this coin is wearing the date might be the first to go. I have to be careful.
Bluejayway: scratches were already there.
Rte592: front pocket next to my wallet
Anyone have experience wearing down a low MS grade to an AU grade?
what was your technique?
ie: coins in pocket with piece or other?
Everyman sets need AU's 55's or 58's.
some coins that did not circulate a lot are hard to find in Au's for the set.
I tried that a while back by putting some of the modern coins I needed for my circulated type sets in my pocket for a month, rubbing them between my fingers every day and letting them bang into each other in my left pocket, but they all came back MS when I submitted them. Here’s pictures

Forever , if you have a "secret" pocket.
Perfect examples of why I think “cabinet friction” is a myth. I just don’t believe that storing coins in a cabinet and opening it a couple times a day (at most!) to examine the coins would have generated any discernible wear back in the day. Gold is more delicate than modern clad, but I just don’t see it.
I also think you'll give up before reaching your goal.

I always thought that would depend on how much walking or running around one would be doing........which probably isn't very much these days for most people.
I always thought about putting one in a small burlap bag and just leaving it in the dryer. Every time the wife does laundry (and that is quite a bit), it's getting closer and closer to a PO1! 🤣 😂

It looks to be cleaned and scratched to me. I'm not sure that more wear will remove the scratches. I'd start with another piece.
As for the time frame, it' might take five or six years if you carried it all the time with other coins and walked a lot.
I agree harshly cleaned/wiped and dipped. Will take a long, long time. Had this 22 Peace for over 30 years and handled every day. My Dad had it about 20 years before that as his car key chain. Started as an MS coin in the 60's. Looks about a VF now. If you want a PO1, I'd picked another coin to start.
It looks like you need to dig about a twenty mile long ditch still. 4' by 3' deep. Through clay.
PCGS has an "artificially circulated" no-grade designation now, by the way.

So basically a detailed coin. I would pass on something like that. It's gotta be straight graded/problem free with a date.

You will probably lose it first.

Wow , all this is a good help. Guess my plans will not work, I am too old to wait 30 years rolling a coin in my pocket
Then get an "artificially circulated grade".
