These photos are taken in a 2x2 flip. Coin shop is asking $50 for this Nickel. There is hair in the 2x2. Thoughts Please!

Not good at grading these, but I think it's AU. Is it possible to take better pictures?

Guessing it’s Unc, as many rolls of these were saved. I can’t tell if it’s one of the over dates or not. But I wouldn’t pay $50 for ANY ‘38D nickel….well maybe if it was a slabbed 67 with great toning…. But certainly not any raw ones.
No! Maybe it's the pics but I would not buy this coin.
You can get one slabbed for about that much that looks much better and is actually MS.
Joe.
Looks like a nice unc, but a later die state. There are lots of these out there so you can be picky. I'm not sure about the $50 price, seems a little high to me.

The 1938-D Buffalo is a common coin. Many were saved in Mint State. That one appears to be an AU from the photos. It also appears to be a later die state, which is not in its favor.
I think that $50 is way too high. I bought one in an NGC MS-66 holder for $50 several years ago. Here it is.
Priced way too high for the low quality, there are better coins for this date.

+1
I just spent 5 mins on the web and found this NGC MS65 being sold by Gerry Fortin for $50, way nicer coin.

An unslabbed AU 1938-D Nickel struck from worn dies for $50 ... the dealer is in dreamland.
Check Coinfacts, those things are very very common. I bought a 63 in a rattler for $25 more for the rattler than the coin.
Overpriced common date.

Same as above. there are countless examples out there with a
better strike. Hard to tell from photos if it's AU or Unc
I would not pay $50 for the OP piece... for reasons others have already stated. '38-D Buff Nickels are pretty easy in already slabbed MS holders. Many people opt for this date/mm in Type sets because they typically come very well struck...

I believe your question has been firmly answered. It's good that you asked and learned that your money can be spent better elsewhere. Happy collecting!

Sorry, I wish I could. I'm still learning about these Buffalo's. 😫

Last year I picked this Buffalo up for $50!
Got it graded.
MS 66
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line. The coin looks AU, but even if it’s uncirculated, it’s not worth $50. It should be an easy pass.

Thanks everyone for your input
It’s not even a deal. An AU is about a $10 coin if that much.
Pass / get a slabbed 65 or 66. CPG for a slabbed 65 is $35 range. A 66 around $75.
Uncertified, common coin, offer a lot less and walk away.
Walk away and skip the offering less part.
