I’ve been watching this type at auction ever since I moved to VA three years ago, and that’s probably the most fully ‘red’ Virginia 1773 1/2p I’ve ever seen! Nice coin.
30+ years coin shop experience (ret.) Coins, bullion, currency, scrap & interesting folks. Loved every minute!
Nice!
Wow...nice coin! Love the color...

Makes you wonder where that was tucked away for so many years.

Pretty coin!
Friend of mine had one just like that a few months ago, same grade but it was beaned and in an older white holder. Was yours reholdered recently?

WOW. Is this from the same collection that you've posted other coins from recently?

It is pretty and I don't pretend to know anything about Colonials... but just what the heck is on the cheek, hair curl, neck & bust?
Is that not wear?

It is a hoard coin. They were struck just before the Revolutionary War, and significant number of them ended up in a keg, unissued. I have heard that the number was 700 pieces or more.
You do see well circulated examples now and then, but it’s rather unusual.
This coin was in a private collection (I have posted some of the other coins) for 40+ years. Was not slabbed before.
Guaranteed from the Cohen hoard!
... and CAC does not accept colonials anymore.
Incredible survivor
PCGS graded this one MS-63, R&B over 20 years ago.
I’m going to guess long term contact with an old paper envelope caused the high point darkening, similar to this large cent:
PCGS 64BN
This coin was from the New York Bank hoard, i’m sure there’s been a post or 2 about these.
I bought this coin raw in a frame with a display/story about the hoard. I won the coin in an auction from the UK

Thank you Dan, coming from you that is high praise!
Don’t know how many folks notice but check out the gal that makes up the Harp!
Don't see them red like that very often! Very well executed design, too
