Has anyone submitted or received slabs from SEGS lately?

OAKSTAROAKSTAR Posts: 7,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've been looking for any recent feedback about SEGS submissions. Has anyone submitted or received slabs from them lately?

It seems like you were the last person to contact them? Before that most did not know if they were still operating. I'm guessing no one on this forum has submitted to them since the thread below last had any activity.

Yes, apparently I was the last person to contact them. I started a new thread to cut through that old thread and get down to the brass tacks. I'm apprehensive to send them anything without additional positive feedback from someone that has had recent experience with them.

I've got a handful of coins I'd like to send them, but I am also apprehensive to send them anything.

In the prior thread you said SEGS did get back to you, did they say they are taking submissions at that time?

According to that thread, which I just reads through, their response was turnaround times are currently 8 to 12 weeks. So, seems they are accepting.

I tried contacting them again with that exact question via e-mail and phone..........nothing! crickets! It's just really weird. I don't understand it. It's like some kinda ghost company. It's annoying. I want to give them my business and it's like they don't want it! Crazy!

Any particular reason that you want to send them something? If you want a SEGS slab, eBay or someone on the BST should be able to help. If you have something you want graded at an affordable price just for authenticity, Anacs or ICG would be good options.

That's true but I just felt the need for addition information or assurances that there's actually a service on the other end of that e-mail and my coins don't fall into a black hole.

I appreciate that question and feedback. I have multiples of what I believe is a unique variety. My goal or project is to have them slabbed by each or as many TPG'ers as I can locate. NGS, ANACS, ICG, VSS, PCGS, etc...

P.S. In addition to that, I really like the feel of that slab in-hand. I think it's well made.

Since I had two sets of the original FSNC 1928 design in SEGS holders
I sent my 3 complete sets to SEGS and had them slab them.
I’m looking for the image of the SEGS stacks of graded ones but can’t find it .
    I’ll still keep looking.

When did you have this done and were you happy with the service?

Edit: Hmmm, March of last year. Okay, thanks very much! 👍🏻

That makes sense; hopefully you can get a reply from SEGS and have them grade one of your coins.

. It took a few months because I asked them to make the slab insert as close as possible the old ones. Also I didn’t have final mintages till the very end. Otherwise it probably would have taken 4 weeks.
I found them to be very nice and too just love the feel of the SEGS holders.

I was looking to see what Heritage or Legend have as far as SEGS offerings and don't see anything. Do some auction houses ban the sale of SEGS? If so, why?
Was there a time frame SEGS was 'canceled'?
I haven't heard nor seen of them in over a decade.

Does SEGS slab D. Carr medals? I know ANACS does, but I just don't like their slabs.

I thought I heard that Larry Briggs has nothing to do with SEGS anymore. I don't know what they'd be doing post-Larry regarding varieties if that is the case.

So, basically, you directly asked them the question and received a response. But, you are still not comfortable, so after all this time, are now looking to see if someone sent something into the black hole you are so reluctant to go near to receive "addition information or assurances."

Good luck with that. It looks like you are the designated canary for this one. Let us know how it goes.
