It's not a coin video, it's a manufacturing video...Perhaps why I enjoyed it so much!

Seeing non-coin folks put serious effort into a coin manfucaturing video (really a mini-documentary) was that much more satisfying knowing that I actually do know plenty about coins/numismatics.
I loved every second of this one.
Certainly not comprehensive but very well done. No narration, just some captions to give interesting details.
A few of my favorite moments...
- 4 minutes in or so, seeing a W quarter fresh off the press in better mint state than likely any of us have ever found.
- 16 minutes in, seeing a guy sprinkling W quarters into the mix of bags going out for distribution.
- Finding out that apparently they call the big washer machine for the blanks the "Whirlaway".

Excellent video! Just one question. At what point in the process are these made?

Fascinating! Thank you for sharing…
Easy to see how difficult it is to find a truly high grade coin after thinking about how the freshly minted coins are stored/handled/transported…
Excellent view.

Cool vid. When a blank is originally punched does it remain perfectly flat?
I think until it hits the upsetting mill. Then it become a planchet.

@OAKSTAR I didn't see anything addressing the flatness of a blank. They must have serious punching machines that spit out flat blanks.
Thanks for posting this. Watched part over on MyCollect but wrapped it up here. Coins get banged around a bit.

Wouldn't it be punched out against a FLAT surface? If they go to the trouble of making sure that the feedstock is flat, I expect that the blanks will be flat or flat enough.
You'd think that someone would get it right that American coins are cents and pennies are British. Otherwise a nice video.
Yes, very serious. If you put a finger under it, it could leave a mark!!

It was cool to watch for sure. Thanks for sharing 👌
Nice video. Watching it at 2:10, I was wondering how clean the Mint's compressed air system is and if maintenance is up to snuff?
The video at 2:10 shows an employee blowing off blanks with what I assume is compressed air. Is this step before or after the blank washing process? My guess is after due to the limited number of blanks being manually handled.
If the air compressor's moisture removal system is compromised due to component failure or delayed maintenance, moisture can build in the system and then be expelled with the compressed air into what ever equipment is powered by it.
If this is the case, moisture laden air could be getting discharged all over those virgin coin blanks. Moisture coming out of the line would initially be unnoticeable until building up in the air supply tank
. It would be an intermittent condition that only comes about when maintenance is required. Could this " contaminated air" be a source for the illusive spotting on Silver Eagles? Just a thought.
Cool video but LOL at this.
Almost certainly when any of them are being tended to or handled individually it's most likely proofs.

Yeah but no Pink Floyd, Zepellin or Dead music to fill the air.

That's the way the Mint shows you how it still can make errors.
With all those robotics I kept thinking about The Terminator movie. Thanks for the video.
