Like to see what your #2 would be. I know for some they simply have no other country in mind.

England, they have a very rich history.
Type collector, mainly into Seated. -formerly Ownerofawheatiehorde. Good BST transactions with: mirabela, OKCC, MICHAELDIXON, Gerard
Yeah if I did not collect Latin American coins England would be next in line or possibly Russian roubles.
Mexico, without a doubt.

England followed by Japan and then the Philippines.
I have fairly large "accumulations" of each of them.
Hey!! What about Canada?
Just because we have a King now instead of a Prime Minister, shouldn't stop you from collecting our beautiful coinage.

I have to admit that I have not spent very much time looking at world coinage, but choosing from those that I have I would pick German coins. I have some heritage history with Germany and I really like many of the coin designs.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I did for decades then fell in love with Latin American coinage. Canada has great coinage I just like coinage from earlier times. Canada starts in 1858 and I have always loved the jungle and pirates and stuff like that so Mexico and other Latin American countries give me that thrill.
People often conflate Newfoundland and Canada coinage as being the same animal, which they aren't necessarily, and I already actively collect both-

England, Germany or Italy.

nothing else..1858 to 1967
What I like about early Mexican coins they truly are the 1st coins made in the Americas (Cobs and early milled coinage). And there are so many rare coins it is mind blowing compared to say most USA coinage. But I believe the US market will dominate for a long time coming.
I also like Russian roubles from Peter the great up to later 17th century. But can't afford to be all over the map.
Probably the Philippines for me. That was the first country my ship pulled into on my first deployment.
Germany and France. Not sure exactly why, I just have been always drawn to those countries.

What country is it from exactly?
They are from the colonial period of what was then known as German New Guinea.

France and Germany had as many colonies as any.

Cuban coins . Just because ebay doesn’t allow them, and that makes them that much more intriguing.
?
I have handled a lot of Vatican and Irish slabbed coins. Fun. Mexico my big favorite. Currently just picking off deals on low pop slabbed world coins. They are so cheap vs US Classic and it’s super nova priced / rabid bidders holder, sticker game.
Also having fun increasing my graded currency. Seeking Texas NBN.
There is something called a Thaler. I would look into that.
Shipwreck coins.
I was born in Portugal, so I also collect coins and currency from Portugal.

I'm surprised no one picked ancient Greek and Roman coins.

I collect both Canada and Mexico, so primarily North America. I have dabbled with UK and Australia stuff too but harder to find.
Canada for sure then England
Peru....
I've always liked Irish coins. This is an 1804 Irish Bank Token overstruck on a Spanish 8 Reales.
However, if this ends up being anything of significance I may get interested in Italian coins.

Are there books on German coins?
I’ve collected coins from a number of nations. If I wasn’t going to be US only, though, I’d probably be either (in random order) Mexico, Canada, Britain, France, Switzerland.

I always been interested in Canadian coinage, as they have some beautiful designs. Maybe someday I'll dive in.

I always thought Greek bronze coins were just as beautiful and underrated compared to their silver counterparts.
Great coins and much cheaper than US coinage. The key coin been the 1921 50 cents aka king of Canadian coins. The 1911 dollar is more important but only 3 exist and they are I believe now all in the Canadian coin museum. The 1921 50 cent has an estimated 75 known to exist.
Ancients and German, English
Thanks will buy a copy would like to learn about German coinage. I have books already on Great Britain, Canada, USA, Mexico and other Latin American countries. Always love to learn more so happy to know there is such a book.
England.
Here's another good one.
I have a copy of that book great book as you mentioned. Money well spent.

I have the books to get started.
I have the run of large cents as well as the post- George V halves, but this is the field I really find fascinating, the pre-Confederation tokens. I have quite a few, but “some day” I want to get serious with them:
