So I just won a 1830 Capped Bust Half Dime on eBay for $104. It was in an auction format and I ended up getting the highest bid, after bidding on other half dimes previously. What do you think about this one? Did I get a good deal? I had buyer's remorse after I won it because I started doubting its quality. It has fine details but the darkness of the coin has me worried I might have made a not so good purchase:
The Bust series has me stumped for now....just too far out of my budget at the moment in the F-VF range. Asides from the mentioned marks, I like the look of that one; shows some history...who held it and spent it for what?
Thanks for the replies everyone. I got the coin in and it looks better in person than in the auction photos. It even has some cartwheeling luster remaining. It seems that the person who listed the coin didn't take good pictures and the coin looked darker than it actually is in person. I took some better photos, have a look:
Not a bad half dime for a 7070 album... strong VF details but the hairlines and the gouge behind Ms. Liberty's head would hold her back from a straight grade.
The Lincoln Cent looks like an odd color to me... could just be my crappy cell phone screen...
Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;

It was difficult to get a good picture of the Lincoln Cent due to its cartwheel, and for this one I didn't take it out of the flip holder. I wonder if that might be why it looks odd, but in person it looks like a natural surface to my eyes, at least.
My new pickup was a 1913 Type 1 Buffalo Nickel, it has a full horn on the back. The obverse looks like an AU58 to me and the reverse looks like an MS61, what do you folks think?
Great start to your 7070. Working on my 3rd 7070 with only the Liberty Seated Dollars to complete. Probably some upgrades to do. Good luck on your set.

Thanks, having a little trouble with work so my plan to get a Seated Dollar next was postponed. I guess that's what makes completing a 7070 such an achievement, this pesky thing called life. I used to have a beautiful AU Seated Dollar about 12 years ago but I had to sell it when times got tough. I can't get one that nice this time around but I am thankful for what I can pick up. I'll have another update soon, I need to take some pictures of a couple more Capped Bust series that are part of the collection now.

I took some pictures of another coin for the set, a 1909 Lincoln Penny VDB. I think this one has a good strike, and the cartwheel in-person is great:

Here are a couple pickups that I hadn't posted here yet, I've been working on the capped bust series.
First is an 1837 Capped Bust quarter, the close-up really accentuates the scratches on it but they aren't that displeasing by eye:
Next is an 1839 Capped Bust Reeded Edge half dollar. Again, the close-up really brings out the damage but it doesn't look that bad in person:
