Really nice high grade error. I would submit that to pcgs under their new economy error service for the $35. I can’t quite make the date out because the pictures are a bit blurry. If that can be figured out, it will be worth more. It’s 198(x).
Very cool find.
Is the value of this coin worth the cost of getting it slabbed?
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

That's a real, neat, error. I don't think grading would enhance the value. It's pretty obvious what it is. Take a pic or two of the roll coins and wrapper to help document your find.

The reason I think grading this one could be beneficial is if you can get pcgs to put “struck thru cloth” on the label, it will enhance the value. Sometimes it’s difficult to know what the strike through material is, and then getting the tpg to acknowledge it and put it on the label. And yes, you are correct it looks like a 1974 D, which adds to the value.
I would’ve described it as “struck through cloth” – and yes, it would be worth more Certified as such.

Excellent find! Rolls of coins often have additional coins from the same die. I would consider looking at the others.... if you find another, or more, that match the die abrasion? indications around Lincoln's head, that seem to be on your coin, keep them with the coin! Could be a way to document the date.

All the coins in the roll were 1974d so I'm gonna safely guess it's a 1974d
Nice, I like 👍

Awesome error, and still quite Red, it must have been very exciting to come across that in the wild!
It's all about what the people want...
Cool looking cent. Nice find!
Nothing is as expensive as free money.
Outstanding example of that kind of error! Great condition as well!

I think when EOC checks in he may have a value opinion. He has a few on his site.
Really a great find.

Great find! Try to be careful holding by the edges to preserve the red copper!
