PCGS Grades in - CBQ/H Challenge - Attribute and Guess the Grades
Amongst all the fun and excitement of Monday night, and then the discussions and texts last night ... I received grades from my Pittsburg submission.
Thank you PCGS for a very fast turnaround on this regular submission!
.
Just four coins, a CBQ I've owned forever, and three CBH's acquired over the last 12 months. Interesting story on one of the CBH's, but we'll save that for later.
.
Using the TrueViews, the Challenge is to Attribute each of the coins (worth one point each), and guess the grade (worth four points each), so twenty points possible overall.
Ties go to the first posted with the highest score.
If someone has 20/20 vision (see what I did there?! ) and get's it perfect, I'll call it.
Prize is?? ... bragging rights! ... and a beer (or suitable beverage) ... next time we're together.

I agree. Last thing I needed was a distraction from CBH's

Attributes- Are you kidding me, it’s all I can do to attempt and try to render a grade.😂
Those are four really nice coin!👍
@KensCoins2287 has some pretty good eyesight. Not 20/20, but I think he can drive without glasses.

That 1815 CBQ is fabulous!
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Anyone else? I'm going to leave it up until after I get home from work.
I owe @KensCoins2287 a beer at this point, and I'll gladly have one with him next time we find our selves together, no matter what happens today. Ken's a really good guy, very knowledgeable, easy going, and I even have a few coins I purchased from him.
Anyone want to try to knock him off the bragging rights throne? Beer's still on the table until tonight.

VF25 (color bump, love the color here)
1829/7 101a 55 (i think this one might have more luster in hand than TV's let on)
1831 53
1834 53 (great original surfaces)

Okay, well then ... kinda quiet, so I'll reveal the grades and my thoughts / the backstories.
First the, @KensCoins2287 wins with 12 for 20. All attributions correct and two spot on grades.
Second, all coins were submitted raw.
The 1815 Quarter is now a PCGS VF25. I found this coin on eBay in 2011 with very poor images and in an ICG holder. It was gorgeous when it arrived and I never regretted purchasing it, even though I was much more into EF/AU Bust Quarters during that period. It became my "type set" piece, and was freed from it's plastic long ago. That old ICG holder? VF20.
The 1829/7 Half is now a PCGS AU53. This coin surprised me a little as I thought it would go 55. But it was a "55/53, either way, depending on the day" ... and I knew that. Should go 55, but might go 53 is what that means to me. If I said 53/55, it's should go 53, might go 55. Anyway, the interesting thing about this coin? It was in a new, N55 prong holder that said 1829. No other reference. And it sold on HA weekly with no mention. Someone else saw it too, as I didn't get a real bargain, but still a nice pick.
The 1831 Half is now a PCGS AU55, and I agree with the grade. The TV is a little washed out, and I agree it looks like a 53 in the images. I have it listed as a 55 with a nice natural skin and pleasing luster and surfaces.
The 1834 Half is now a PCGS AU55, and I agree with the grade. The TV is a little washed out on this one two (not as bad), but I think this is a strong 55. Not quite a 58, but maybe. So, a 55/58. The weak rims on the reverse probably didn't help her chances at a higher grade, be she took a shot. A grey dirt beauty.
Okay ... that was my Pittsburg submission.
Thanks for all the comments, and playing along ... and all the offers for the Quarter!
