Just ridiculous color on this Morgan...

Won this coin from GC yesterday, felt it was hard to pass up even with a slight premium bump for toning. I understand color isn't for everyone, but your comments are always welcome...

I'm not going to bother with GTG; feel free to take a guess or look up the cert number. Suffice it to say it upgrades from an MS65 in my registry set, but I couldn't pass up the look on this one.

Always looking for attractive rim toned Morgan and Peace dollars in PCGS or (older) ANA/ANACS holders!

Not the look that I tend to gravitate toward, but congrats on finding one that you like to upgrade your collection.

I don’t usually pay big premiums for toning but, if I did, I would want one like that.

Way to go and congrats on the upgrade! 👍

Looks good and toning on both sides. While somewhat common with many series, not so much so with the Morgans. Also it looks like a minimum amount of unstruck planchet in the jaw area. This date for some reason seems to have a few more of them and some quite extensive. A couple in coinfacts are a 'like what'.

It will probably be a lot more on the brown side than the red side of color in-hand. :(

I've always been in the RickO camp and like the blast white surfaces but this one looks very nice. If it looks as nice in hand you found a winner. In addition, I tend to avoid them because premiums for toned coins are hard to determine and seem kind of subjective to me.

    Congrats on you new purchase.

I think that it's an absolute stunner-certainly among the nicest toned Morgan Dollars that I've seen-and I've seen in the hundreds of thousands (total Morgans, not toned Morgans).

It is certainly worth a modest premium and probably more than modest, at least to some.

The surfaces are so clean, too. The light contact behind the head on the obv. and tick on the eagle's wing on the rev. are the only contact that I see, so I'd guess that this is at least a 66 and maybe a 67.

I don't see anything wrong on it. Nice coin 🪙

I think it's a very attractive coin--surfaces and color combined--but I would not personally classify the color is ridiculous in that while it's very nice, it doesn't contain the shades or intensity of toning that would typically garner a large premium.

@airplanenut I always respect your opinion and I know the shades and intensity of toning you're speaking of, especially the greens and plums associated with monster toned coins. I'm really not drawn to that electric toning, but I appreciate that there are many who do, and feel that type of toning warrants a significant premium. My coin is worthy of no such premium.

However, I'm particularly drawn to the gold/orange/blue/silver progression around the rims of Morgans that have an almost antiqued finish in their patina. To me, this coin's grade and color progression demonstrates about as extreme an intensity as it gets for that particular color progression.
