Great news. A drop of a few hundred more will get my total interest. For now, $950 over spot on a $2000 bullion coin is too much premium.
But $950 over spot on an $1800 coin is just right?

The Lowest any Numismatic Palladium coin sold by the United States Mint was the initial price in September 2018 of $1,387.50.
is that the initial bullion issue?
The initial 'bullion/regular strike' was released in SEP-2017. References - U.S. Mint Press Release, and PCGS #653109.
The initial numismatic version, a proof, was released in SEP-2018. References - U.S. Mint Press Release, and U.S. Mint Product Page.
For that it is worth I’m selling my 2021 platinum “Freedom of religion” proof Eagle for 1400 - at a loss (paid ~1550) to help my young adult daughter get a car. Check BST thread. She graduated college with honors and she sure deserves it so I’m trying to collect for down payment.
I LOVE this coin and this series - especially this one as first of series - but I love my daughter even more!
If the Mint continues the series for another 10 years, I tend to believe that the lowest mintage and earliest issues in 70 will track what has happened with the Platinum Eagles.
Given the current price disparity between gold vs. platinum or palladium, and the historical price ratios between them, I would think that any nice Pt or Pd coin found at around 10% - 15% over spot is a good deal.

Historically, Pd was cheap. Depends on how long your "history" is.
That said, even if you think the gold/Pt ratio is too high, you can lower it by gold dropping as well as Pt increasing.

I was not tracking Palladium earlier but if people were buying these at $1200 I doubt there was a $950 premium to spot.
If you're talking about 2018, that was before the Mint changed their pricing schedule for "bullion" coins. Back then, the premium was only $250 or so.
You will not, in the near future, find this coin from the Mint with a lower premium. It might look like a better bargain at $5000.
Your comment piqued my curiosity about the change in premiums for numismatic Pd over this time frame. So, I did a little 'digging'. Thought that I would share the results.
Per @cagcrisp earlier in this thread, the release price for the 2018 proof APdE was $1,387.50 on 9/6/18.
This implies an "average price per ounce" of "$950.00 to $999.99".
At the same "average price per ounce", the price using the current pricing grid would be $1,900.00 for a 2023, 1.0 oz., uncirculated coin.
Assuming an "average price per ounce" of $975.00 (~ mid-range):
~ the premium was $412.50 in 2018;
~ the premium is $925.00 in 2023;
~ and, between 2018 and 2023, the premium increased $512.50, or 124.24%.

Yeah. They were trying to stop losing money on the collectible coins which had been a perennial loser for a couple decades.
$1,900 Admission price could pop $100 soon due to spot increase from last Friday 11-17-23. What weekday do US Mint metals' fees adjust ?
Price adjusts Wednesday morning now $2,000 11-22-2023

Historically, Palladium reached an all time high of 3440.76 in March of 2022. Palladium - data, forecasts, historical chart - was last updated on November 18 of 2023."
Coming down drastically. May not be worth much soon at this rate …. 😩 It’s lost over 70% from its high of $3440 a little over a year and a half ago. Who would have thought?
Comments
Palladium now at $952, platinum at $842.
An ounce of gold will buy an ounce of each, plus about four ounces of silver.
