    Cal

This one is silly; not even close.

This is for you @thisistheshow - Jim Rice was actually a pretty good player.

Molitor was a better hitter and a much better baserunner, but he played 1150 more games at DH while Ripken was playing SS. This is silly.

If the question was who was the better hitter, it would be Mollie all day, but overall, Cal played SS. well and for a long time. then 3b. both plus positions.

George Brett, Roger Clemens and Tommy Brady.

As much as I think Cal Ripken is extremely overrated, he was a better player than Molitor.

I thought he was extremely overrated as well, but then I took a closer look. I think his defense is overrated. Espinoza probably deserved the gold glove in 1990 and Vizquel (speaking of overrated defense) in 1991, but, on the other hand, he was much, much better defensively than Trammell in 1984.

But the thing is, there is HUGE value to playing an above average 20,000 innings at short, as opposed to 13,000 defensive innings defensively, all but 450 in the four infield positions, and another 1174 games at DH. HUGE.
