    Do die marriages count?

My low-ball top pop favorite: 1874-CC WB1 in G06, the plate coin and only coin attributed to WB1 on CoinFacts.

1874-S WB4 in F15, CoinFacts plate coin and only coin graded of two known.

I have this little gem (not gem)

    1929 58+ FH

    pop 1/0

That's a very nice coin and yes it is the only 58+ but it's not a top pop. It's 1/1690 (not counting NGC coins).

It’s pop 1 yes, but 1,690 are graded higher with FH, not 0 (1/1,690).

I typically interpret top pop for the grade, not necessarily the highest of the high. I'll be more than happy to delete my post.

No need to delete!!!! Some of us interpret it differently, but since it's subjective, i strongly suggest you keep it as is! Separately, getting a FH on a 58+ is special, regardless. Super attractive too!

    Sorry for the confusion.

What does top pop for the grade mean?

This one was tied for top pop for the silver series in the FT category until someone made a 69 FT recently.

    MS68+*FT

I guess to me, I look at top pops in two tiers, as the registry sets are graded on two tiers.

So, the top pop for everyman sets would be AU 58+ (and then add other designations as necessary). So for Dimes, it could be AU 58+, and AU 58+FB. For Morgans, it would be AU 58+, AU 58+PL, and AU58+DMPL. At the other end of the spectrum, a top pop in MS grades would be finest known, so yes, like your coin was a top pop in my mind until someone made a MS 69 FB.

I'm sure others would disagree with this thought process, and I am the first to say that I'm not a registry player, BUT, in the registry world, I believe + designations get extra points, as do things like FB, FH, PL, etc. So it makes sense in my mind that things that get more points rank higher than others.

Ok, I thought that’s what you might have meant. Not grade then, but circ/unc.
