I spent a PCGS slab today.

True story. I received a 2000 Sacawagea in MS64 in a deal of low grade, basically junk coins (there were two I wanted out of it all) a few weeks ago. I've had it in the back of my car with some misc. coin supplies.
I'm at the 7/11 and realize my "coffee fund stash" (dollar bills and change left in the ashtray) have been depleted and I wasn't carrying my wallet.

I don't know about you guys, but I need that morning brew.
I thought about it. Let's see. I could eBay the Sac and maybe get a bid of $4. or so. Time to scan/write the auction/ email the winner/ mail the coin. Hmmm.... Unless I like working for half of minimum wage- probably not worth it.
So, out it came along with a couple of dimes and pennies found under the seat and my coffee was purchased.

I was hoping the 7/11 clerk would at least give me a little grief, but he only takes the PCGS slab, looks at the Sacawagea and says, "Oh great- not another one of these". He also mumbled about there not being a place in his till for this "coin".

Oh well.

  • He took it slabbed? Definately no room in the register for the slab!

    ROTFLMAO!

Good thing it wasn't a F12 or you might have had to agonize over it.image

Bwuahahahahaha!!!!!!! I love it! I have a couple junk JFKs I may do this with.image

BTW, I know what you mean about that morning mugwump (and, afternoon, and evening). Fortunately, I have a three burner Bunn commercial coffee maker, so I'm never far away from these essential life giving fluids.

And I thought I got dirty looks spending unslabbed Sacs. image

    Edited to Add:

Were you off today or not in uniform? Here, you would have gotten the coffee free.

7/11's in the DFW area offer uniformed officers a complimentary beverage from the fountain area (coffee or Coke).

And many restaurants offer discounts to same if an officer dines in.

I absolutly LOVE it. That is the ONLY use for sac. To bad you didn't have a kennedy,
or you could have gotten a doughnut too!

    Made my day!

Ouch, that's a long rotation -- here it is usually changed monthly.

Keith- I just received the Sacawagea you sent me today (along with the other coins). That freebie was nicer than the slabbed PCGS MS64.
To play it safe though, I'd best not have your coin in my car tomorrow morning when the need to caffeinate hits!

In Texas the Cops get cheapo rent too! Apartments Complexes want Cops on the grounds .... so if you are a Cop... the apartment managers give you great deals so you will live there. Bad guys don't like to see cop cars in the parking lot. Make the women feel safer..... ect... ect.

When I was a District Manager with Winchell's, I had a policy that all uniformed LEOs got their coffee and donuts on us as long as they ate in. My stores were all open 24/7 and some weren't in the nicest of neighborhoods.

BTW, the thing about Cops and donuts? It's true.image

Maybe the clerk will crack it out and send it to ACG. Great story braddick.image
  • The Sac is such a misunderstood coin.image

Pat, next time I will send you a package from Star Bucks!!!!imageimage

By the way.. See what I just got back? I wasn't sure if with that kind of color if PCGS would slab it but they did.image A nice cherry red.

Now THAT'S nice! Love those colors. I picked one of these up at the Anaheim show and sent it to PCGS with the request to "Reverse Side Up" on the slab because of this same reverse toning. They did. Fun coin.

Pat, there's a new label for PCGS, "In case of emergency, break slab"? Too funny.
