My 11,111th post give away. GRADES ARE UP, CONTEST WINNER DECIDED!!!!!!
I joined the forums in early August, 2004. 19 years, 1 month later I am posting my 11,111th post.
Thought it would be a good time for a give away contest (explained below).
I have an 8 coin submission pending at our host. The coins are proof coins. The submission is:
1 1 In Process In Process 1957 5C In Process USA
2 1 In Process In Process 1957 5C In Process USA
3 1 In Process In Process 1951 10C In Process USA
4 1 In Process In Process 1957 10C In Process USA
5 1 In Process In Process 1957 10C In Process USA
6 1 In Process In Process 1959 50C In Process USA
7 1 In Process In Process 1961 50C In Process USA
8 1 In Process In Process 1961 50C In Process USA
The give away contest is as follows:
A. By the contest deadline of 11:59:59 p.m. on 10-15-2023 any one who wants to participate in the contest must post a reply to this thread; and
B. In any such reply state your guess as to what grades (and designations [non Cameo, Cameo or DCAM]) PCGS will assign to the coins.
Whoever's guess on all 8 coins is closest to the grades and designations assigned by PCGS (as determined solely by me) will be the winner. The winner will receive a prize (which I will disclose in due course).
Feel free to guess away and have a little fun.

Will leave the solving to more adept talent, but wish you congratulations on your long tenure here.
I have no clue on guessing the grades but wanted to congratulate you on achieving this incredible milestone!😎
Congrats on the milestone and the longevity @SanctionII! And thanks for the chance.

I remember one of your last orders came back a tad light on the cameo designations. Seems there were some breaks in otherwise thick frost.
For this reason I guessed middle of the road grades and only a few cameo designations. I hope I’m wrong and you’re markedly improved.
I am glad your contest does not require actual skill in grading or I would win the last man award I am certain. But I appreciate the opportunity to guess.

All 67 CAM. Lazy guess.
For those who want to see the coins before they guess, see attached cell phone photos. The picture quality is not very good but it is the best I can do.
If anyone who guessed the grades before I posted photos want to revise their guesses please do.
The third photo from the top.is out of order. It is the reverse of the 1951 dime.
Keep the guesses coming folks.
TTT.
I am disappointed that no one else has chosen to enter my give away contest
Perhaps revealing the contest prize will generate some additional guesses
The contest prize will be a slabbed proof set from the 1950's (containing one or more Cameo coins assembled from proof coins in my collection that have already been slabbed or that are currently at PCGS being graded).
OK. I will change my guess.

What a great prize. The winner will be richly rewarded.
Thanks for the update. The reverse photo by the E Pluribus was a little bit blurry and doubling was a slight possibility. I thought that would be a great reason to send in two 1961's and make the guesses for the giveaway a trickier challenge
My US Mint Commemorative Medal Set
See I was good, in fact hopeful, until you tossed the pics in here and threw knowledge into the mix. I stood a purely statistical chance of winning until you ruined my odds by introducing skill. So revealing the prize, something I would like to add to my proof set collection, has only made me more dejected

First of all thanks for the opportunity, and secondly congrats on your over 11,000 posts. I'm not so much into proof coinage, but what's great about being here is that when a guy like you IS, well then I can enjoy all the beautiful pics, and the stories that go along with the type of collecting that you are into. I've enjoyed your posts for years and always look into them. Thirdly I hope you are here for at least 11,000 more posts.

In this reply I will explain how I will decide the winner of the contest.
The contest winner will be the person whose grade/designation guess for the 8 coins I submitted for grading comes closest to the actual grades and designations our host assigns to the 8 coins. Guesses that are too high or too low are not the objective. The objective is to place a guess that matches the grades/designations assigned by our host.
With the above in mind.
The the 8 coins I submitted will be awarded three points each when they receive from PCGS a numerical grade (i.e. 66, or 67+). This will result in 24 points being assigned. If any of the 8 coins receive a CAM designation that/those coin(s) will receive one additional point. If any of the eight coins receive a DCAM designation that/those coin(s) will receive two additional points. Thus the points for the 8 coins I submitted will range from a low of 24 to a high of 40;
Each guess timely posted in the contest (again the posting deadline for guesses is 10-15-2023 at 11:59:59 p.m.) will initially receive points in the same amount as the points awarded to my 8 coins;
After 1 and 2 above have taken place each guess will be compared to the grades/designations assigned by PCGS to my 8 coins and those guesses that do not match exactly with the PCGS assigned grades/designations will have its point total penalized with deductions;
For the numerical grades, if a guess assigns a numerical grade that is one point higher or lower than the PCGS assigned grade a one point deduction will be made (i.e. my 1959 half dollar is graded 66 by PCGS and a guess of either 65 or 67 results in a one point deduction; a guess of 64 or 68 results in a two point deduction). For + grades that are not an exact match a half point deduction is made (i.e. my 1959 half dollar is graded 66+ by PCGS and a guess of either 66 or 67 results in a half point deduction; or if my 1959 half dollar is graded 66 and a guess of either 65+ or 66+ results in a half point deduction). A guess could also result in both a full point and a half point deduction (i.e. my 1959 half dollar is graded 66 and a guess is 67+, resulting in a one point deduction for the numerical grade and a half point deduction for the +);
For the designations, PCGS will either assign a no designation (brilliant proof), a CAM designation or a DCAM designation to my 8 coins (if plotted on a line reading left to right would give us .........Brilliant................CAM..............DCAM.........). If a guess designation for a specific coin does not match the designation assigned by PCGS (i.e. my 1959 half dollar is found by PCGS to be brilliant and the guess for that coin is CAM or DCAM) a deduction will be made. The deduction will be one point if you move only one space on the .........Brilliant................CAM..............DCAM......... line [Brilliant to CAM, CAM to DCAM]. The deduction be two points if you move two spaces on the ........Brilliant................CAM......................... DCAM......... line [Brilliant to DCAM].
After performing 1 - 5 above my 8 coins will have a point total.
Further each guess will also have a point total that takes into account each deduction (described in 4 and 5) made as a result of the guess not exactly matching the grades and designations assigned by PCGS. The same deductions apply whether the guesses are on the high side or are on the low side.
I will then compare the point totals (after adjustments for deductions) for all timely posted guesses to the point total for my 8 coins. Whichever guess has a point total that is closest to the point total for my 8 coins will be the winner of the contest. In the event of more than one guess has the winning point total, that tie will be broken by choosing which of the guesses with the winning point total posted their guess to this thread first.
I have spent some time thinking about how I would go about determining the winner of the contest. After doing so the above is what I came up with and I decided to post my methodology to the forums.
I encourage more persons to place guesses (especially YN's). Even if your collecting interest lies elsewhere you can still have a little fun and direct any prize you win to be sent elsewhere to whoever you choose.
Thanks for participating.
Thanks for the chance!
