Thursday At Long Beach

Was there for three hours. Long line at PCGS for grading, but traffic was light. Fewer U.S. coin tables. More sports cards and currency.

There's a little something for everyone. For the newbie collector, there was a huge overflowing table with everything out there sold for $3. Saw a 1926 P and 1928 P Buff that should go VF 25. A few generic Barber dimes in G-VG. A full torch Unc. 64 D dime.

Eye Appealing Coins had a nice run of AU and Unc. Capped Bust Halves. Saw many Capped Bust Halves in these grades at the show.

Saw quite a few Heraldic Eagle Dollars in AU, and a few in Unc.

Angel Dees had a nice run of 2 Cent Pieces.

Plenty of high end IHCs.

Legend had an 1815 Large Dentil Quarter. MS 65 or 5+, slabbed. All there for the grade. It was the nicest of the series I've ever seen. Toned to boot!

Seth Chandler has the nicest Braided Hair Large Cent I've ever seen. It's a 6 or 6+ RD, and it's all there for the grade.

He also had the nicest 1795 AU 3 leaf Flowing Hair Dollar I've ever seen. Original surfaces. The obverse looked AU 55 to me, with a touch too much wear on the reverse to qualify for the AU 55 grade. Stickered too; the only one of these I have seen that is stickered.

Also saw another 1795 (2 leaf) Flowing Hair Dollar in AU 50. Also original. Saw another one with AU 58 detail but net graded to AU 50 because of a light cleaning.

3 of these in one show. Have been looking for one of them (passed on these three for different reasons), and nice to see some of them out there.

Saw a few MS 67 SLQs in FH.

Plenty of pretty much everything that is circulated.

You may be able to get a good deal, as if Friday is like Thursday, traffic will be light.

Sounds like you saw a lot of high end coins. Thanks for posting the report.

Good read. Thanks. Any error coinage that caught your eye?

Thanks for the report, @Elcontador. I arrived around 11:30 and stayed until 5 PM. Agree it was lighter than my last two visits to LB which was great for getting up close and personal at most tables. Saw @SethChandler, @ianrussell, @ThePennyLady and several other old friends.

By late afternoon, the aisles were mostly empty. I picked up a couple of pieces for family members but left empty handed with my list.

The US Mint had a large booth at the back of the hall with the just released Palladium Eagles for $2150 each:

On my flight back to SFO now after a long but fun day.

Didn't notice any error coins. But I saw a nice run of gold dollars, and gold dollar commemorative coins, ie., a 1903 $1 gold coin re the centenary of the Louisiana Purchase, and that sort of thing, which I did not know existed.

Thanks for the report. I'm not seriously thinking of NOT going to the show. Bummer...but this report and the other report didn't give me a warm feeling about going. The last two shows I attended since the Covid shut-down were dismal. It doesn't seem like it has improved....(sad).

I certainly didn’t intend to dissuade anyone from attending. Yes, it was a bit lighter than past opening days but there were still a ton of great coins, great dealers and great people at the show. I’d highly recommend making the trip:

The side I guess? I'm just happy I don't have any visible bald spots.

@Elcontador It sounds like there was some high end stuff at the show and a little bit of everything.

I like it when foot traffic is light as it is easier to look at the coins in the cases. There aren't a bunch of people just standing there blocking the cases or worse yet putting their stuff down on the cases blocking all the coins that I want to look at.

Sorry I missed you at the show (but happy I got a picture of your good side). I often think we should get CU hats, t-shirts or name tags for big events like this, otherwise we pass each other in the aisles like ships in the night.
