$5 Type set upgrade - Liberty no motto (1st CRO purchase)

I had never bought from CRO (John) but look at his coins often. I received the early bird email and jumped on this $5 1851 MS62+CAC coin. John described it as slightly under graded with nice luster. It is a big upgrade for me (replaces an AU53CAC).

After the purchase I learned it has @Pedzola pedigree and that says something. His coins are amazing and he told me I will enjoy it. I should receive the coin at the end of next week. CAC pop shows there are only 4 at MS62 (plus grades unknown) and 5 higher (all 63's). I like the rarity of this example.

Here is the $5 Type set so far (still need the Fat Head and maybe a 17?? someday)

Great upgrade and a fantastic set of $5 gold, very drool worthy. Funny coincidence I also made my first purchase from CRO just a month ago. Like you I've always looked thru the inventory but had not pulled the trigger until now.

I saw it @ CRO and admired it, excellent purchase and I am sure you will be pleased. On a separate note if you visit coin facts you will see an ms65 & ms64 & a ms63+ too, so I was confused by your typing that all higher are only ms63's?

I only look at CAC pop reports. That’s where I got those numbers.

I too follow this model. Not that I don’t have some NGC coins, as I do and they’re all CACs. Really when I see a coin in my series that’s not stickered, I start to wonder why. Usually they’re over graded, at least that’s what I am finding. Just my 2 cents!👍

I believe I figured out what the Fat Head is but on the 17?? since this is a type set, then this would be a 17?? small eagle?
If so, then that could be the tough one. But sometimes luck happens and it shows up just at the right time.

Yes, I would need to go after a small eagle. My limited budget may not allow that. An 1813 $5 is doable and that is referred to as a Fat Head.

I think you need both the Small Bust, Large Size (1813-1829) and the Small Bust, Small Size (1829-1834). The Small, Small is the toughest coin in the set.

Good point. I forgot about the Type 3 Capped Bust. That coin may be out of reach.
