New Coin Photo Offerings from PCGS/CACG?

ProofmorganProofmorgan Posts: 762 ✭✭✭✭✭

I haven't seen any announcements (maybe I missed them), but I've been seeing some coin photography teasers on the social media platforms for CACG and PCGS that are showcasing some high quality edge view and 3D shots of coins. I like the subtle competition between the two services.

I'm going postulate that we will see this offered as a service upgrade or standard in the near future.

Anyone else notice this?

Those shots were taken quite some time ago (they were deep in Phil Arnold’s instagram at least). I think CACG is doing the same thing as a publicity stunt.

I think @PCGSPhoto can confirm this though.

For those who may not be on Social Media, here's the kind of shot we're talking about here. This was posted yesterday.

Thanks for sharing .. it would be nice if they made it a standard option for edge views ... to think all of those Colonials or Patterns that may have unique edge lettering edge - that one can view, even with edge view holders.

I found an edge view of one of my patterns - J1747 in an old auction catalog ... not sure if NGC not PCGS ever thought about offering this image when they slabbed this type of coin?

Wow. I really like that edge view showing both obv and rev on that 71. I'd pay for those with my submission if it was offered.

  • The only issue with these shots is that it's a bit more difficult to depict the luster of the coin. It's great for toned coins.
