Quick question for PCGS submitters , I have an order that has been in received mode for two weeks. Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks in advance!

Mine has been in Received for a month. I’ve seen some submitters have been there even longer.

Mine have went pretty quick until QC, then get stalled for weeks. Except my most recent one. It's been in received for 3 weeks now.

Hmmm !!! I submitted three groups at the ANA which tells me they got to our hosts on the 14th. 2 groups went to grading on the 17th, the 3rd on the 18th.

Agreed. I dropped off 6 coins for variety and reholder at the ANA but also mailed on one for the same that I didn't receive in enough time to take with me. The mailed in one is in encapsulation and the dropped off coins are still in receiving.

So there's no rhyme or reason as to what is the better way to submit. I was leaning towards taking submissions to a show. Looks like it makes no difference.

  • robecrobec Posts: 6,773 ✭✭✭✭✭

I don’t know if these threads have made a difference or if it’s just a coincidence but my submission just changed to Grading after sitting in the Received pile for a month.

One of my Regular tier orders (straight raw grading; no varieties, etc.) has been stuck at "Received" since July 28.

    When in doubt, don't.

    It’s gonna be a minute.

They say 40 working days for regular submission and that’s fine. Mines been there for 26 working days. If it makes it past 40 days with no movement I may begin to look at my PCGS app like this 😑

I handed them a regular service order using collectors club vouchers at the Central States show way back in late April, and still waiting 4 months later.

OUCH !!! I hate to hear this. I was hoping to get mine back before the year was done.

Well, when you take them to a show you save postage (supposing you were going to the show anyway) and eliminate the chance of the submissions getting lost in the mail. In exchange, you increase the changes of PCGS losing them on the way back to the office and you getting robbed on the way to the show.

  • Tom147Tom147 Posts: 1,485 ✭✭✭✭✭

Points well taken although I feel pretty confident that our hosts won't lose the coins on the way back to California. As for getting robbed, I carry something in my pocket to address those issues. If I'm going to the show I'll submit there as I like to think they'll get into the system a little sooner on their return to PCGS as evident by some others having submissions sitting in receiving for up to two weeks. On past occasions when I have submitted at shows, no more than 4 days in receiving, whereas mailed submissions, 8 days max. in receiving for me. I know there are exceptions to every rule. Maybe I've just been lucky.

If it makes you feel any better, I've been in Quality Assurance for two weeks on my club submission. They were quick with my express ones though.

I think it depends upon the Service Level?

But, since we're on the subject, I have a question.
My latest submission has been sitting on 'Grading (In Process) and 'Being Imaged with no grades posted.
Is PCGS now finalizing grades depending upon images?

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I think at the Being Imaged point the grades are final as the grade will be part of the image.

The grade is only referenced by the Image but it's not in the actual image.

Not only this but what led me to ask the question was this screen shot.
"Scheduled for Grading" yet it's being Imaged First?

Again, I ask, is PCGS Grading from Trueviews?

@19Lyds It appeared with my last order that the images were prepared first.....it may be the work flow. The images dropped with the grades where in the past grades would drop first and images would follow days or weeks later.
I doubt the graders are working remotely and grading from images.

  • ProofCollectionProofCollection Posts: 6,401 ✭✭✭✭✭

You may have seen my thread where I posted my experience with about 50 submissions so far this year. Most transitioned within the first week or two. I did have a guarantee reconsideration order sit in Received status for over 2 months. Most would transition before 1 month though. So what you have is not unusual.

I don't think so. Many of my orders have sat in QC status for several days. I can only imagine that this is when the images happen. In fact, when I submit an in-slab trueview submission, it transitions to QC (Being Imaged) almost right away and is often there for about a week.

I just sent in a number of coins across two orders for reholder + variety (including one in-slab TV). They sat in Received for ~2 weeks but during that time the cert #s updated with the varieties. They then jumped to Encapsulation and one of the two has now moved to QA. They are all being imaged but no images have been posted as of yet.

This is how I recall it occurring. Grades Post and then imaging occurs before encapsulation and when the images are ready, there's a separate notification.

I recently submitted some IKE's for grading because I thought they would have some nice high grades. Trueview didn't agree with me.

For example, I was certain that this coin was a straight MS68 but the Trueview showed some shadowing which does not appear in hand.

  • I will post the times for my orders. They usually take around 3 months. I had a fast one come in in just over a month.

One sub is still sitting at received for a month now. Plus the sub that was received last week hasn't been checked in yet. This is the worst it's been since I started submitting last year.

That isn’t the case. Being Imaged shows up the first day it moves from Received to Grading.

  • I have a 4 coin Express Crossover submission clocking in today at 6 weeks from the date it was entered as received by PCGS and was similarly in Received for two full weeks. Now in Encapsulation. Im definitely going to hold off on submitting anything new for a couple months.

You can't judge anything by one experience. Look at my recent submissions. The first column is the received date. Sometimes they just fly right through. Although there is one laggard.

My 2023 uncirculated Peace Dollars said received for a week but I just figured I had #1 of the signed Cards from the Mint Director and they were oooing and awing over it for a week. Not, it went to grading this Monday and burst that bubble 🤓

Mine logged in on the 8th and two days ago - it finally moved to grading. This is a Quarterly Special, so maybe they are not in as much of a hurry to move t along as I am...But at least it moving.

I got this response a week later after sending them an email. one sub is 6 weeks at "received".

I'm not sure if they're just blowing me off with a canned response (likely) or they're saying that my coins are being graded despite showing in "received" status (not likely I think).

  • lermishlermish Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭✭✭

I've become fairly skeptical of our hosts but this might actually be true. I've been in Received for 12 days (actually 17 if you count when I dropped off in person at Long Beach). I've never heard of that on an Express order.

  • Manifest_DestinyManifest_Destiny Posts: 6,900 ✭✭✭✭✭

If that's true, they need to make sure they send something out when shipped at least.

That has to be a canned response. If they actually checked your order I would expect them to say "...moving through the process and is currently in _____ step." The root of the reason for contacting them about this is wanting to know where the order is.

I don't think there's in an issue with order status. I do note that sometimes overnight statuses get updated. I have had Express orders recently sail through, but like you my Quarterly Special subs are still sitting as received since 8/21. I am not worried, they take their time with some service tiers.

I saw orders go from received to grading this past Tuesday (they were received the Friday before) This was 2 months my order had been in received. I called in and they were going to look into it. It finally went into "grading". Hope it is not another 2 months to actually be graded.

I don't know why people keep complaining about how long it takes for their coins to go thru the process. This has been going on for the last 2 years. You would think that everyone would be used to it by now. Lol

Your info is worthless without providing the grading service tier.

Coin's are only TV'd at the Regular or Express or Gold Shield submission level or if you select the option on lower tiers.

NO. Not happy with my Pittsburgh experience. 3 submissions, all under reconsideration. The customer rep. knew my primary reason for the submissions was to get Trueviews. SHE crossed out the Trueview boxes I had checked. Stated under Goldshield they would be Trueviewed. On receiving my submissions back, no trueviews. After phone calls & delays, I was told " reconsiderations are not Trueviewed unless they upgrade. " The customer rep " did not recall me wanting Trueviews or she would have told me under reconsideration they would not be Trueviewed. " Yea, right. Like she was gonna remember me specifically. Again, SHE CROSSED OUT THE TRUEVIEW BOX. Really don't care if I'm banned from the Forum. I spent over $ 1,000 and NOTHING to show for it. NOT HAPPY. In answer to your question, no all coins are not Trueviewed.
