I feel something is off with this barber quarter. Do you think it has been cleaned? (auction’s photos)

It sure looks like it. (Edited to add: Or whizzed.)

Yes

Cleaned yes, market acceptable? Maybe. If it was polished, as it looks like it may have been, then no.
Probably. The luster seems off in the photos.

Looks whizzed or buffed. Unfortunately.

Would say it’s freshly dipped. I don’t see any definite cleaning abrasions, marks. Think it’s a dipped AU he’s trying get MS money for? That’s a common scenario.
CPG for AU is $136, MS60 $260.
From personal experience definitely dipped…
Based on the images provided, the coin isn’t merely dipped. Many people mistakenly think that cleaning always results in easy-to-see cleaning lines/hairlines.
Edited to add: Often, the primary evidence of cleaning is an unnatural sheen on the coin.
Mark Feld* of Heritage Auctions*Unless otherwise noted, my posts here represent my personal opinions.
Abrasive cleaning causes hairlines while dipping does not. Different, unnatural looks, both impairing or obliterating luster of the original surface, depending on severity.
Depends on the fineness of the grit. Cleaning with a fine grit compound won't leave visible hairlines.
