I bought this coin for $55, I think it's worth $65 even with the spots (and no CAC sticker)

    .

If you send it to me, I'll put a green sticker on it for free.

    Weitd thread.

OP posts pictures and asks for opinions. When he gets opinions he didn't like, he blames his own pictures. He sends it in and gets a $20 sticker on a $60 coin, which is what he was going to do anyway.

Seems like everyone would have been happier if this thread never happened.

That’s not exactly the truth. The criticism was uncivil and denigrated the coin unfairly. I welcome dissenting opinions that are not mean spirited. Maybe people are tired of your incessant remarks you make on so many threads. Fwiw a green CAC 66 1943 sold over $200 on GC, your $20 is theoretical.

If one just sold for 200$ on GC most likely a variety.

You cannot post marginal photos and then get upset that disparaging remarks are made of the coin.

Also, only your opinion matters... if you need other people(s) approval this much I advise you to hire a numismatist to review coins for you prior to you buying them. You will learn what you are looking for and what you are not looking for. Mark Feld is very good at this. Among many others.

This post and your Ike post seem to mirror each other. You are striving for other people to confirm your opinion and when they do not it seems to cause dissension.

Good luck in your collecting career.

I know I shouldn't stick my hand in the crazy, but @jmlanzaf was referring to the sticker costing $20. Did you pay a different amount to CAC?

I asked for opinions because I like to know what others think, but I still am comfortable making the final decision based on my thoughts.

In this particular case I was also unsure from the photos of the seller about buying this coin so I asked for feedback from forum members. When I received the coin in hand I was happy because I saw only one light spot on the reverse. But people keep on insisting there are multiple spots which isn’t true and unnecessarily over exaggerating the negative in the coin.

As for CAC I see many examples of inexpensive coins bringing substantial premiums over non-CAC coins on GC and EBay. This $20 or so stuff is not really that accurate. Some people pay dearly for attractive CAC coins
The fact is there are very few CAC inexpensive coins in the market, so the prices can go up much more than you expect

$16 maybe I misunderstood that part of his critique

Those of us who thought we saw multiple spots, did so, based on the photos that YOU provided. That was all we had to go by. We didn’t “unnecessarily over exaggerate the negative of the coin”. Apparently, the photos did that. So blame the photos, not those who were trying to provide helpful feedback - feedback that you solicited.

I appreciate your "civil" comment. I didn't even insult your coin and you're taking shots at me.

My $20 was referring to the price.of the sticker.

66 CAC coins can sell for $200 FWIW

  • ChrisH821ChrisH821 Posts: 6,558 ✭✭✭✭✭

I don't think a MS66 steel cent is worth all the drama.
I think the coin looks fine from the images, but can't really tell beyond that. Good to see that CAC thinks the coin is A or B. There is almost always something on a coin that will make some "hard pass" while others wouldn't mind. Minor spots or die polishing come to mind.

This thread seems like a bargain to me

Glad it turned out well for you, congratulations on the results. I have to agree with ChrisH821, rare is the coin that doesn't have at least some detractors (even if it's just a jab about tarnish from a member who has sadly departed us). Enjoy the coin regardless.

@Walkerlover - So I guess you were the highest bidder, then.

Yes I threw in a snipe bid on Ebay to win it at $45+ shipping.

Your point is well taken. Nonetheless I feel a just a few commentators got carried away in their degree of criticism. It does seem to me that steel cents don’t particularly take well to the camera
