“1834” Contemporary Counterfeit Capped Bust Quarter

I purchased this piece from a collector I know for quite a low price.

This piece appears to be a cast contemporary counterfeit based off of an 1834 B-1 Capped Bust Quarter. There is no reeding on the edge.

From what I can find, CCF Capped Bust Quarters seem to be quite rare. Gerry Fortin has none listed on his site, and the few sources I’ve found point to any CCF CBQ being quite valuable.

Hope you find this coin interesting, and would love to hear some input from any CCF collectors here on it.

This isn’t my area, but why is it “CCF” and not “CC”?

What prevents this one from having been made in the 1970s instead of being contemporary?

As mentioned about because it’s a cast it can be difficult to tell age. But I would suggest checking out www.badmetalcoin.com. This site is by the author of the definitive works on contemporary counterfeits. I believe he is a member here as well, but not sure how often he is on.

That will be a tough but fun piece to research I'm sure..
Hopefully you'll get some eyes on it right here...

    Interesting!
I have handled a few contemporary counterfeits along the way and found them extremely difficult to put a value on…i am certain i have sold them way below market value…..:)

Definitely looks like a counterfeit..... Cannot determine if new or contemporary. Cheers, RickO
