1822 Bust Half O-105?

The missing letter tops have me a little confused. Is this a late state 1822 O-105, or what?

Yes, O-105. The reverse crack and the R in AMERICA confirm

I am assuming it is uber rare since it is being pictured, I guess this is the certain tough situation where rarity trumps aesthetics ;). One only a mother could love so to say.

Well ... sort of. As a Die Marriage overall, R2 ... so no, not really by DM. However as a Die State, this appears to be the 105.3 or 105.4 (obverse needed to confirm which), which brings it to R5.

I wonder if the obverse even has a date, and this was a wonderful sleuthing exercise from Andy, where he figured out the year and DM by the reverse only.

It is a coin in need of a story...

The coin survived a dual involving Andrew Jackson and some other guy. Don't ask about the other guy as he did not survive as well as the coin.

It’s no ordinary hole. I’d bet the obverse is counter-marked by another country.

Correct. The countermark is from Costa Rica. And the hole is official, being part of the revalidation process. I asked about the variety because I thought it might be rare enough to matter. But since this is a rare countermark, the Overton variety would have to be extrememly rare before it impacted the value.
