I am now an expert coin collector, i have bought so much stuff and I keep on buying, i never have enough time to go through everything. i finally joined pcgs to start grading so much of my finds. Its a fun hobby, will i get the return for what I spent, yes because my online stores keep selling for above what I paid. I would like to be a dealer now but I know I have yet a lot to learn.

If you want to accelerate your learning curve, list your online stores. There are some pretty good critics in these parts.
Just take a pain pill before you start reading the critiques.
Anyone who thinks they are an expert after one year lacks the proper mindset to ever become an expert. But good luck in all your endeavors!
GTGs have been really helpful to me.
I would suggest doing plenty of those mainly to see if you can understand the given grade!
Very helpful, IMHO!
15 years collecting and don't think I will ever consider myself an expert wish you all the best in your future endeavors
One's ego is a puzzlement.

@ozzy... Welcome aboard. You are one year into collecting coins? I am sure you have learned a lot, however, coin collecting is a very large hobby, with an equally large knowledge base. I know of no one who became an expert after one year. I caution you to proceed with care. Many of us have over 50 years in the hobby, and still would not claim expert title. There are several forum members who are truly experts in numismatics. I suggest you spend a lot of time here, much can be learned from their inputs. Cheers, RickO
ok let me correct my original post. when i said expert, i dont mean knowing all the information about everything. What I mean is I am able to make a correct decision on what Im buying and I am able to resell it if need so. I still havent read the many basic books that cover the broad range of topics. Anyways thanks for all the comments they are much appreciated
David Hall and John Albanese will tell you they were not experts even after TWO years!
Welcome. You can alter your title. I would perhaps think it a bit pompous but not exactly because as you qualified for a year your skills have greatly improved. Fast tracking with the aid of your fellow formites is possible. One can obtain a working knowledge of things in general. I’m glad you are here and this is an amazing place where as a newer member, you might expect, the giants generally remain humble.
Believe me. There’s folks here who have so dang much knowledge and hand it out freely. They do however deserve respect and acknowledgment
May your journey be long and profitable. May you receive numerous comments and points of view. Thanks 🙏
🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
After 60 years, I am an expert coin hoarder with scant knowledge of coinery yet. I sell my coins for too little and give too many away. My posts indicate that I know little about numismatics, your future posts will verify what you are. The good is that if you do not teach something, you dang sure will learn much if you read with the purpose of acquiring even more expertise.
Welcome, and good luck.
Yeah, but they were lying![:joy: :joy:](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/joy.png)
been a collector for over 20 yrs and still learning things, in this hobby you always have something else to learn and the learning never stops

One year in and an expert... no books, no study... just gifted.
And... here I am reading, joining clubs, going to shows almost every weekend... and I only incrementally improve over time. What a rip!![:'( :'(](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/cry.png)
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
You need to spend more time on youtube.
That is the fast track. ![:D :D](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/lol.png)
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Thanks for your posts, Ozzy. I am continuously humbled by my lack of numismatic knowledge, as some of my inane posts and comments over the many years illustrate. Nevertheless, I keep involved here and learn more by the day.
Cheers!
Some time ago someone posted a CBH that was engraved for Andrew Jackson and was presented to a child of an officer( I think) and the OP had no clue about it.
One member summoned several others and it a very short period of time they had the history down cold, even finding newspaper articles that placed Jackson in the location where he was to present the coin.
It was amazing to read how they all came together to methodically solve the issue.
I definitely rate these as experts!
Buy lots of stuff and don't go through everything? Is this a joke?
Welcome to the forum. As others have stated, many have collected and studied coins for nearly a half century and are still learning. I’ve always been interested in Flying Eagle and Indian Head cents. Recently I have become aware of the scores of pattern cents produced before the final selection was made to produce for circulation. I’ve collected for 60 years and still amazed at the volumes of coins I never knew existed. Again welcome, we all have a lot more to discover.
I've spent the last five or ten years just organizing and selling a (nearly) lifetime accumulation. Sure I have some actual collections but a lot of stuff I hardly even took out of the bag.
"I am able to make a correct decision on what Im buying and I am able to resell it if need so."
That is quite a challenge. To do so one must:
1. Have leverage on the buy side, which is unusual unless one can buy at a dealer price (have a store front, a great eye, etc.)
2. Be a good sales person (people like you and are comfortable buying at something closer to retail/collector price) and have a good sales outlet. EBAY can consume in fees and time spend time that could otherwise obtain higher reward depending on one's other profession.
" I sell my coins for too little and give too many away"
Normal for collectors, end of gig for dealers.
