@Kurisu Recent Thread Made Me Think About Interactions With Tellers, Post Yours.....

Over the past year or so, my main focus has been dollar coins. Lately (for whatever reason), many tellers have been pushing and asking if I want half dollars or two dollar bills. Keeping half dollars in their inventory is apparently a pain in the butt!! They just want to get rid of them. Also, people have apparently order two dollar bills and never come to pick them up.

I hit one of my banks yesterday looking for dollars. The teller said they had just shipped out $600 worth the day before. He said there's a guy that comes in once a week with several hundred dollars of $$ coins. I asked him if he thought the guy was some kind of collector. He said no, the guy owns some kind of business. The teller looked at me and said; give me your phone number, I'll call you when the guy comes in again!

My kind of teller! Cha-ching!!

Yep, there are many banks I visit with many tellers that I have a good relationship with, esp in coins/currency! Some have received donuts from me, as well.
Unfortunately, there are some tellers I come across with bad additudes when they see me coming in too! These tellers I try to make the visit swift and troublesome. I'll just go to another bank to get the rolls/currency, I really went in for.
I love the banks I go to where I don't have an actual bank account with.
Just credit from my credit cards. Most comply. Some don't allow any coin exchanges!
    It's all good though!
    Most tellers are really
    AWESOME!

Yup, got them paid off with goodies. Got a call about 6 weeks ago that someone brought in stuff that was their grandfathers - old red seal $2 bills, rolls of silver half dollars, wheat rolls, buffalo rolls etc. All in all a good haul, and that is about all I want to share!

Good haul?? That to me sounds more like a fantastic haul! A windfall, a lottery, a bonanza, a jackpot, pennies from heaven.....👍🏻 👍🏻

The bank I've been going to for years decided no coins for you today and refused to cash my check. I just smiled and left. Went down the street and cashed the check and got a few rolls and carried on. I got home and found my second of the only 2 American Memorial Park DDO-001s I've found. It worked out perfectly because the second confirmed the first which I knew was a doubled die but couldn't prove immediately without another one. The first one I found because the laundromat attendant saw me coming and locked the door in my face. I smiled and left. Went across town to a different one where they have newer coins sometimes and found the discovery coin. Most tellers don't care how many rolls you want. Some are like take them all. Then there's the ones that act like they have to take your coins home and roll them up themselves after work

Thanks for thinking of me @OAKSTAR

Now I'll have to remember some of my stories...
A bunch of which involve me bringing the tellers some treats. Like bagels and shmear, donuts, cookies, cupcakes, and recently for an error double strike penny one of the bank managers gave me a few days ago...2 lbs of Rainier cherries and a dozen donuts for her crew!

One of my favorite moments was last Christmas. One of the younger tellers was regularly asking me about coins she found from customers. I've brought graded and raw finds in to show the tellers for years now. She was truly fascinated by coins I would bring in if she was working. She got super excited about all of it and told me she bought her first Morgan dollar...
Long story short, I got her a Redbook for Christmas. She was more than a little bit excited about it. I enjoyed that moment immensely.

I think we're all singing the same song here @Kurisu. Great story!

I've had very similar experiences with tellers. Over the years, a handful have asked me what I'm doing with the coins (mostly dollar coin recently). Several thought I was getting the coins for some type of business. I told them I'm just a coin collector looking for certain dates. They look at me like I have three HEADS!! LoL!! You collect coins they said??? Yes, I told them... I need a life!! :D

A few have taken an interest and have asked me what I've found. I've given up some of my secrets to them, which they really appreciate. I brought in a slabbed MS67 spared eagle and a CPG to show them. I briefly explain the coin grading process. Most have never heard or seen such a thing. Just seeing the looks on their faces when they hold the slab in hand and seeing the CPG estimate value, is worth every minute the conversation!

When ever I go into my local bank or credit union, the tellers are addressing me by name as soon as I clear the front door. It is really nice to to get to know the tellers like this. It kinda reminds me of "CHEERS" - every body knows your name. B)

I've been searching dollar coins the past few years. I'm guessing most of us hardcore CRH'ers have all had many of the same experiences with tellers. Some of the highlights or more positive aspects of the mundane searching, is when you come across a teller that shows a genuine interest in what you're doing with all these coins. I've found that many tellers think it has something to do with a business. When I tell them I'm just a collector, they look at me like I have three HEADS!! LoL!! Then I say: Yes I know, I need a life!! 😂

And then they ask; what are you looking for or finding. Then comes the fun part! I've given up some of my secrets. I've brought in and showed several tellers a slabbed MS-67, Sac speared eagle and the CPG. I briefly explain the grading process, hand them the slab and show them the coin in the CPG with estimate value. The looks on their faces is worth every second of the conversation!!

I show them exactly what to look for and tell them to search their coin trays. If they find one, I tell them to keep it! They can look them up on eBay for current values.

Donuts and treats are great. I do the same thing. You show them some of the coins you've found, what to look for, with the story's behind it and they will never forget you. You have to be willing to give up some of your secrets and share the information. Not everyone is willing to do that.

I got nailed a couple of weeks ago. Been hitting this one particular bank for 7 or 8 months, every week with no problems. They all thought I was an account holder. I was standing on line and saw a new teller. Immediately I thought, this is going to be a problem! Sure enough, I got to the window and she asked me for my account number. If I could have made up an account number, I would have!! 😂 🤣

The last thing she said to me before I left without the coins:.. Have a nice day!!! 😂 😫
