Fed Ex rerouted the truck back to my house
Does anyone know if FedEx is subcontracting or working from home?
Here's my story: Thursday, I was expecting a package that required a signature. I wasn't home.
Normally that just means they leave the tag on the door and you go to the website or call and tell them if you want to hold for pick-up or they try to deliver the next day.
There was a tag on the door. But this one had a note: "call Mike" with a phone number. I called.
Mike answered. I heard a faucet running. I told him my name and address. He said, "let me see where she is."
He came back in a minute and mentioned a street. He asked if it knew where that was. I told him it was a couple blocks over. He said, "oh yeah, I see your street now. "
He asked if I would be home and he'd send her back. I said, "I'll be home until at least 5."
Mike said, "I hope she's home and in the pool by 5."
About 15 minutes later, she showed up with the package. She was wearing a regular uniform and driving a FedEx truck. But it all seemed like they were working from home. It wasn't a very expensive package, about $1500. But I've never had service like that before.

You're lucky I currently have a FedEx package (non-coins but $300) that was sent from Ohio to Dallas, from Dallas to OKC, and from OKC back to Dallas, where it has been sitting since Wednesday, July 19th. No one I have spoken with at FedEx can explain why or if I will actually ever get my package. YMMV, but around here FedEx is the worst.

Didn't I read that our host is now using FEDEX to return our submissions? Oh my!
I like FedEx, and have never had issues. I admit that USPS Registered Mail is clearly safer.
Back on point - I think that’s fantastic service you received. It’ll be great if that’s a new procedure being implemented in some/many areas.

My driver did this for me once several years ago for a perishable item. It helps to form a relationship with your regular driver!
One time a Christmas gift for me was lost in the mail. It was smoked salmon, and yes it did get delivered some time later.

The FEDEX driver took my NGC package to my neighbor’s and allowed a baby sitter to sign for it. I expected the arrival and waited. I stopped him as he was leaving and said “Do you have anything for 115”? He said, “You’re 115”?
He went down and got it back.
I get packages from UPS and FedEx frequently. Have not had any problems. However, for high value items I ship, my preference is Registered USPS. Cheers, RickO
FedEx beats the heck out of a lot of my packages.
This past Christmas my wife ordered from Amazon. The FedEx driver was a sub. Driving a Honda odyssey with 50+packages in the back. 2 year old child in a child seat as well.
Interesting. That was really the point of my post (TLDR, I know). It seemed like she gave me her boyfriend/husband's number to call. I didn't realize they had such delivery people.
@jmlanzaf - ha ha what a story!
Always love hearing from you.
I have not had such experiences - I use USPS regularly
All the best and great to hear from you!!
Quite possible that yours was the only package requiring a signature that day and he wanted to resolve it before he got back to the terminal. A USPS driver once mentioned that they had to resolve ALL undelivered mail when they got back to the PO.
Possible. But he also seemed to be at home and she seemed to be his wife or girlfriend. I don't know but it was odd. I have another signature required package coming tomorrow.
Concerning signing for packages, I haven't signed for one since March, 2020.
They just leave them in the box or on the poarch.
When I receive coins shipped via FedEx (like from GC), even though the local FedEx driver knows me VERY well, I’m required to first show her the BACK of my Driver’s License, which she scan’s, and only after that her device will allow me to sign for it!

You and the FedEx driver and her device seem to have a VERY secure relationship![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)

FedEx should be your shipper of last resort. USPS or UPS are going to be more reliable. It's an issue of worker morale. FedEx does a route system where the drivers are forced to work multiple routes to make a living wage. The UPS and USPS workers have a better union and are not taken advantage of so much, they are happier and do better work. Not a single FedEx employee will care if you have a problem, they have their own problems to worry about.
The substantial truth doctrine is an important defense in defamation law that allows individuals to avoid liability if the gist of their statement was true.
I recently had a FedEx package of a gold coin that required a signature. It was supposed to be delivered on a Friday. I got an e-mail that there was a delivery attempt, but no one was home to sign for it. At the time of the alleged delivery, I was sitting 3 feet from my front door. Actually, I was home all day. Nobody came to deliver my package. I was quite irate. So, the package was delivered on Saturday. We had HVAC service people here, and the FedEx driver had one of the service people sign for it. What a bunch of clowns!
I could write a book about all of the FedEx misadventures I have had over the years. They include having a camping grill being "delivered" in a ditch five miles from my house.
I also had a package I was taking to my son in college that I paid $60 extra in shipping in order to have it delivered on time, which showed up three days late after multiple delivery attempts/"weather delays" that didn't exist. I was able to prove to dispatch the driver was lying, and finally complained enough to the right person. It was delivered at 11:30 pm the night before I was traveling to visit my son. I think dispatch told the driver he would be fired if he didn't make delivery that day, and he came back that night after work. Luckily for him he left it at the gate and my gate alarm notified me.
I also had a FedEx package left in a cattle mineral feeder on the edge of my property 1/4 mile from my house. I for the life of me can't figure out why, but maybe he thought it was a package receptacle.![;) ;)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
My latest misadventure has been stuck in Dallas since last Wednesday. I tried calling today and could never get through to a live person. Their automated system just kept hanging up on me.

I remember with FedEx, you had the ability to reschedule delivery or have it shipped to a FedEx location (like Walgreens) for pickup. That does not seem to be an option anymore. I tried to have a package diverted for pick up at a FedEx location but was unable to do so. It had to be delivered to my house, and I could not reschedule the delivery for the next day.
NGC has a notice on their site where there is an option since USPS express corporate shipping has been ended to provide a shipping label of your own with an express SASE going back to you. Personally I don't like huge overkill packaging, properly padded flat mailers should work for a small order. https://www.ngccoin.com/news/article/11828/express-mail-return-shipping/
I'm not sure if there is a time cutoff prior to delivery but this is still an available option that I utilize for nearly every delivery.
In the past few months, I have read so many eccentricities and oddball stuff about both UPS and FedEx that I'm about to boycott ANY business that ships with them.
Interesting. I have not been able to do this for my last few shipments. I no longer get the option even when I sign in.
I have begun giving shippers the address of the FedEx Ship center nearby me with my name in the address. You can then just go pick it up. I just did this last week on a submission coming back from PMG. If the package needs a signature they will have you sign when you pick it up.
In regards to rescheduling/rerouting a delivery, a FedEx shipper can opt to not let the recipient change the delivery. By giving them a FedEx address right from the start you can avoid these issues.
Thanks. That could be why I have been unable to change my delivery these past several times.
Just had an order ship out from PCGS and looks like they have indeed turned off delivery options on their shipments. This change was made sometime between this thread and my prior order which DID allow re-routing and shipped on 5/16/23
FedEx is a well oiled machine...

That's the message I got too, "Due to shipper restrictions". I clarified with PMG that they are definitely the ones using the restriction and it's not some Fedex change. Ever since I switched to the FedEx shipping center address right at the start it's been SO MUCH easier, no more missed deliveries and no worries of your neighbor getting it either.
Appreciate the helpful info and that's a good idea for anyone expecting to receive FedEx packages! It's been well past 20 years since I got it, but when I ordered my 1877 Indian cent long ago the then Bowers & Merena sent it FedEx, it was left just off my porch and a bit crunched but the coin was fine.![ ](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
