Proposal for group Lincoln cent project
![Fraz](https://forums.collectors.com/applications/dashboard/design/images/banned.png)
Participants in this forum fill a Whitman 9004 album one or two coins at a time.
Sign the list to receive the folder.
When you get the folder you add a cent that has little value to you, mail to the next person.
90 holes to fill, it would take around three years with two weeks turnaround time per mailing.
We might have to sign up a couple of times.
Hold a drawing, or an auction, donate to a charity, or something. There will be time to discuss that.
Worn coins, coins, coins with deliberate damage that are interesting, geometric, cleaned, or artistic.
I’ll start with a damaged key or semi-key cent.
A log of locations and usernames to accompany. Log goes with it
Save the post marks if it is feasible.
Post in this thread if you want to be on the list.
Yes, of course you can post your opinion without participating.
Thanks—Craig.

Sounds like a cool idea! I’ll think about it, then edit my post accordingly.![:) :)](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)

That is an interesting project.... I will not be signing up, but will watch the progress. Cheers, RickO
The project requires an arbitrator…?
@Conshyboy—If interest indicates going ahead, I will send you the folder to add the next coin, you would send to @WaterSport.
Almost fifty views, and only two yesses—let’s see a if a few more will participate before we begin. I know there are unloved good dates out there.

You'd likely get a better reception if you had the details mapped out first instead of the vague notion that something will eventually happen with the album. This is especially true since you are estimating an approximately three-year turnaround time from start to finish. Also, if I understand correctly, the 9004 album is 1909-1940 so, once it is completed, some folks will have put in far more money than others, which should be fine since everyone will/should know this upfront. However, as the album gets more and more filled, there may be some people who cannot place a more valuable coin in the album and this might slow the album down or see folks drop out of the project. Additionally, not everyone will necessarily want to be involved with the same cause (auction, charity, etc...) and letting people know ahead of time what the end game is can make a large difference in willingness. Lastly, what about the vagaries of shipping? If the album is to have meaningful value then eventually it might need to be insured as it travels across the country and if it is mailed 45-90 times then it might disappear. If someone doesn't insure it and it gets lost in the mail then is anyone financially responsible?
I wish you luck, but I could see this being $500+ cost just in shipping and I would hope no one dies, leaves the boards, forgets about the commitment, etc...during its progress.
Similar to @ricko, I have no desire to participate and have only posted here to see if the details have been thought about already. Good luck!

I failed to consider nothing that you mention. It’s what the individual wants to put into it, without gain.
Clicheishly: it’s the journey, the documentation of its travels, photographs, and if we’re fortunate, some good oneupsmanship, and trust.
I start this, but after that, I will try to keep it moving around, but it’s not mine.
The gang can decide what happens to it. I make no claim to it, neither should anyone.
Sure, someone croaks, it’s over. Someone procrastinates too long, it’s over. Post Office loses it, it’s over.
It requires a cent that you do not love and shipping. At worst, fifteen dollars.
Most of the cent hoarders here could fill the folder alone. This bunch of folks could make an interesting collection.
@TomB—You can decide, right now, for us the destiny of the end product: your favorite charity, auction for your favorite charity, sick child, drawing, or museum; I’ll go along with it. It would be a favor, solve the issue.
Thanks for troubleshooting. But, this ain’t that serious.
Perhaps a re-thinking would help provide clarity.
Sending the album seems like a problem looking for a place to happen.
Perhaps have everyone who participates send a coin to one person who compiled the album. Each submission could include a picture/or short comment. Perhaps a signature with coin sent.
Just trying to keep it practical and yet as interesting as your attempting to do.
I’m with you and others who are still thinking about it. I would be in but sending you the coins seems way more organized than 90 trips around the country or even world.
Thanks 🙏

I am taking no part in this project whatsoever. Please do what you want with it and good luck.

@Jzyskowski1—I like that proposal. However, I do not think that it would be kosher that I receive the coins, since this is my idea. I appreciate your trust in me.
We sent a stuffed cartoon character, photographed at landmarks, halfway around the world and back in a VW forum. We mailed it and handed it off at shows. Somewhere along the line someone failed to send it, poof!
Thank you for your input and interest, nevertheless.
I am good to go when this project launches
Wow. Reminds me of chain letters. Haven't seen or discussed one in a long time.
I lie the idea of 1 person ( OP ? ) holding the album, all others mailing you a coin or coins. That would save alot of time and shipping costs. Just make a decision on what happens to the album in the end. Perhaps a contest for YN's with the winner receiving the album.
I would support that someone else receive, but It’s not the same; the travel of the folder and the provenance is the treasure, not the coins. Contact between members was a goal as well. No matter, I can forget it.
However, I invite you all to come to my house. Bring a handful of keys and semi-keys and we will pitch them for keeps.
Thanks, you all who were willing. I’ll have another inane idea shortly.
Thank you for your effort anyway
Thank you. Not much effort to punk myself, though.
A yes from me. Do we participate in date order or random dates.
Giving up already? I liked the idea. With your permission I’ll flesh out the details a little more over the next few weeks then post a new thread on the forum and see if we can get this rolling!
Wait till after the Christmas holidays, some of us may get confused.
One other suggestion !
Send with it's album, a fire stick, to document it's contents with comments.
I’m in. Let me know when you’re ready. Thanks James

I think I can contribute. I have not saved Lincolns since I was 8 but still have them. Sounds like a fun project.

Cool beans. Don’t complicate it, if you can help it. A participant need only to:
1) choose an interesting cent, or two. (Many of us could fill a 9004 alone.)
2) make a photo of the coin and the coin(s) in the folder,
3) document it in the thread
4) sign the log, name or forum name and coin.
5) get the next address and ship.
Include any tale about the coin; @ricko — if your dog deposited a wheat cent between ‘09 and ‘40, it belongs here.
@emeraldATV — You mean memory stick, right? That adds more work, I ain’t against it, and I do think that we should document outside the thread as well. Optional? Figure it out, I have a memory stick to toss in.
this is the order so far:
I’ll send it to:
@Conshyboy
@WaterSport
@Tibor
@emeraldATV
@pcgscacgold
@Tom147
Back to Fraz, at this point I’ll return your coins at my expense if no one else jumps in.
(Link to thread where we sent Yogi; there’s some funny sheaat there. The forum adopted the OP, a 14 year old kid who took on the task of putting a 50 year old VW bus back on the road.)

If we complete this it will shock me.
I’m not seeing this working sending the album around. I’ll send a coin but don’t want to be responsible for keeping track of where it is. Not a fan of the send the album around. Thanks 🙏

Thank you, J. we’ll work that out, and one of the folk can plug it in on your part. Maybe a show will coincide and we could arrange a handoff; part of the saga to relate. I removed your name from the mailing list.
If this ends up happening you can add me to the list.
Collector, occasional seller
Sure wiil, Chris.
Fantastic
Due to the amazing PM system provided by our hosts..,,
I’m back and Fraz has kindly reached out and we are going to do this. I’m sending my coin this evening. Thanks and “ onward thru the fog”. 🤠🙏

Grandpa found this in the wild during the 40’s. Enjoy

Heck, count me in. I've got a couple hundred rolls of Wheaties. As long as you don't want MS coins.
Thanks, no MSs, please, cleaned, damaged, good story pieces. I am putting in a good date, but in low state, I would not sell it to someone unless I hated that person.
I added you to the list above.
@Conshyboy —expect the folder to arrive next week.
Does anyone have a good idea for a reusable container for shipping that does not weigh much?
If no one cares, we draw for the folder from the list of participants at the end.
Very generous; no coin should be better than this, folks. For example, the set needs a good example of counter wheel marring. A plowgashed cent from the tobacco field would be good.
I hope that he found it in Borneo or something.
No. Northern California. He served in the Korean Conflict. So he was just a wee bit north of Borneo. Thanks 🙏
🎶 shout shout, let it all out 🎶
OK looking forward to it and will send it on it way to @WaterSport if that is still the order of recipients
Thanks, I hope to send it tomorrow, if not, Wednesday.
My address has been sent to you and Conshyboy via PM.

I made an edit in the Road trip thread that caused the thread to be approved.
It will return.
