What kind of clip is this?

What would be the correct terminology for this coin? Can’t say I’ve ever seen clips that curve inward like this. Kind of like a double eliptical clip?

    Combo clip. Straight and curved?

I do not think it is a combo clip, I would call it either a "straight clip" or a "ragged clip" depending on the look of the edge. It is probably closer in DNA to a ragged clip, sine the edge is obviously (if only slightly) irregular.

It looks mint made. I could see it being struck on a straight clip planchet where the straight edge mooshed out unevenly because some of the metal in the planchet was drawn into the building in the reverse die, reducing the spreading out into the void at the edge adjacent to the building, while the fields above and below the building were closer to the corresponding fields on the obverse die. This caused the two matching bulges to spread out above and below the building.

My problem is with the lack of a Blakesley Effect.

I think @CaptHenway may be correct on it being a straight clip pre-strike and changing to the way it looks post-strike. The shape on the clip looks very similar to one that I have, a straight looking clip with a divot in the center. First time I've seen another with a similar clip shape, I've always just thought I had some weird ragged/straight clip. But seeing another with a similar shape is why I think CaptHenway may be correct.

It is a genuine clip, sometimes on large clips, there is no blakesley effect.

Yes, I think that this coin exhibits the same effect as that seen on the OP coin.

Interesting coin and analysis.... I also was concerned about the lack of Blakesley effect. Had not seen information that indicated it may be absent on large clips.... Seems it would be there anyway... Will have to study that more. Cheers, RickO

There would be no Blakesley Effect if it was struck on a Type 1 planchet.

Metal flow is not the same at all points of the coin on medium to large clips here is a 74 percent curved clip. Notice how its not perfectly curved.
