Lost coin delivered, what's next?

Ebay refunded the cost of a lost coin (not a lot), the very next day it got delivered. Seller asked me to pay him. How would I do that? Through eBay, or just PayPal him outside of eBay? Just want to do what's right.

You can ask him to put up a new listing on eBay with a title and description of something like "repayment for refunded item actually delivered" and then you buy it. That way it can all be done on eBay.

The seller will have to pay the selling fees on the second listing.

The easiest way is Pay Pal or send a check or postal money order.

They will have to pay selling fees but the fees from the first sale (besides the $0.30 flat fee) should have been credited back as long as it was a normal refund (meaning eBay did not step in to do the refund).

Sending via paypal would require getting the seller's contact info, which could be problematic with eBay. If the buyer still has the address of the seller (didn't toss the envelope), then a check/money order would likely work (if the buyer wants to use that option).

Happened to me several years ago. Except it was about two months after coin was declared lost. I advised the Seller, and he relisted the coin with offers, I put in the offer equal to the original winning bid.
I was happy, seller was happy, ebay was happy.

This would be the honorable way to resolve it. eBay did their part. They deserve the fees. It is not eBay's fault that the PO screwed up.

Happened to me just a few weeks ago. I talked to eBay customer support and they told me to send a message to the buyer with my PayPal address. As long as I used eBay Messages that would not be a problem. Worked like a charm and the buyer is a repeat buyer.

Looks like a couple of good resolutions above. If it were my issue, I would just work with the seller to arrive at an equitable solution. Cheers, RickO

If I were the seller I would happily do that to get my money back. After all, I didn't pay any fees on the first listing. I would, however, do whatever the seller suggested. It's his dime.

I had a lost item show up some three months after I got a refund from the seller, I just sent the money back via paypal FF with a note that I was paying for an item that showed up after being declared lost.
